Diablo 2 is apparently preparing its most important update, launching the PTR today

Fans of Diablo 2: Resurrected have been waiting for the most important feature since its release: the ladder. There is still little information available about it. For this, Blizzard has now announced a test server for the remaster. The players are happy, despite the lack of an update.

This is the situation:

  • On September 23, 2021, Diablo 2: Resurrected, the remaster of the ARPG classic, started.
  • Then as now, the ladder is missing – the seasons in Diablo 2, so to speak. This should come with the upcoming patch 2.4.
  • Blizzard is now bringing a test server (“PTR”), but is only testing the server structure for the time being.

What is being tested According to one Tweet from the official Diablo channel databases and server updates are to be tested on the public test server. What exactly is behind this has not been elaborated.

Presumably this will prepare the upcoming update 2.4. Even with the release of Diablo 2 there were major problems with the servers. There were connection problems and even characters “deleted” due to poor connection.

The problems lasted for many weeks and really dampened the excitement. Apparently, Blizzard now wants to prevent this when the next major update is due and is testing the connection for this. The PTR starts today, January 12, 2022. The exact time is still pending.

What is the ladder anyway? In Diablo 2 there was already something like seasons, which at that time were still called “ladder”. For a limited time, you can play special ladder characters there and equip them with items that are only available there. There are 4 different ranking lists:

  • Standard / Softcore for Diablo 2 without Lord of Destruction
  • Hardcore for Diablo without the Lord of Destruction
  • Standard / Softcore for Diablo 2 with expansion
  • Hardcore for Diablo with expansion

The ladder is there to encourage a certain competitive spirit in the community. If you want to compete with others, you can check the official rankings here to see who can farm faster or better.

Blizzard has already announced that new items will come into play. These are mainly runic words, particularly powerful, homemade weapons and armor. There are also new recipes for the Horadrim Cube and some adjustments.

When does the ladder start? The date is still pending and many fans are longingly waiting for the feature. For them, Diablo 2 is just beginning with the ladder. By now, most of the players have probably achieved what they want to achieve and are looking for new challenges.
