Lübeck Cougars sign ex-quarterback for the Hamburg Sea Devils

Football second division Lübeck Cougars has made a spectacular new signing: Jadrian Clark, who was quarterback for the Hamburg Sea Devils last season, will direct the attack of the mountain lions in 2022.

Braunschweig, Vienna, Hamburg – and now Lübeck

The 27-year-old is one of the best playmakers out and about in Europe right now. And Clark has already achieved a lot in his career: Euro Bowl winner with the Braunschweig Lions 2018, GFL runner-up with Schwäbisch-Hall 2019, Austrian champion with the Vienna Vikings 2020 and last year ELF runner-up with the Hamburg Sea Devils.

The fact that Clark has now landed in Lübeck was more of a coincidence. The Indianapolis-born quarterback’s contract with the Sea Devils was not renewed. Instead, the Hanseatics rely on Lübeck’s young Salieu Ceesay, who learned the ABC of football in the Cougars’ youth. But Clark currently still lives with his girlfriend in Hamburg and was looking for a new club in the north.

The 2022 Cougars Schedule

Ten regular season games are on the program for the Lübeck Cougars in the 2022 season in GFL2. In addition, the mountain lions are planning at least one test match.

The preliminary dates:

“A friend of mine, who is also good friends with Florian Dannehl, asked us whether we would like to talk to Jadrian about moving to Lübeck. Of course we did. And everything came together very quickly, ”says Stephan Starcke, Offense Coordinator of the Mountain Lions.

Perfect quarterback for the Cougars system

And Starcke is enthusiastic about his new playmaker. “Jadrian is very mobile, athletic, intelligent and human. A real stroke of luck for us. He knows how things are going in Europe and, for example, has delivered incredible performances in Schwäbisch Hall. The Sea Devils, on the other hand, played a system that didn’t suit him very well. But our system should be just right for him, ”says the Cougars’ offense boss.

Clark engagement is meant to give the team a push

But the commitment of the 1.90 meter tall and 100 kg heavy model athlete has other advantages. “Such a leader can give the whole team a push. And Jadrian already lives here and, unlike normal import players, doesn’t have to be flown in first. So he can train with the team earlier. In addition to the US passport, he also has an Irish passport, so it doesn’t even affect our import quota, ”says Starcke.

Now the Lübeck trainer trio is working with Starcke, Defense Coordinator Florian Dannehl and Special Teams Coordinator Mark Holtze primarily on pushing the German squad. The aim is to convince a large part of the 2021 team to continue playing for the mountain lions and to strengthen the squad with a few newcomers.

Lübeck’s footballers are still planning new additions to the defense

There will also be reinforcements in the defense of the Lübeckers, which are currently still without imports. “We hold talks with a lot of candidates. But we also have to see whether German top performers leave us in the direction of Sea Devils. Only then do we know where the need is greatest. But one thing is certain: at the end of the day we will have imports that are real difference makers and game changers, ”Dannehl announced. One can be curious …
