Silent Hill: Unreal Engine 5 Fan Video Shows The Game Finally Deserves An Official Remake

A fan video shows that Silent Hill could look great these days.

What do Silent Hill fans want almost as dearly as a new part of the unique horror series? Exactly, good remakes of the old classics, which ideally preserve the horror factor of the originals and at the same time exploit the graphic possibilities of the current gen consoles. If you are not yet completely convinced of this concept, you should watch the impressive demonstration in the form of a fan video.

Unreal Engine 5-Fanvideo

It’s all about this: Under the name Codeless Studio, a group of Silent Hill fans has asked what a remake of the first part might look like. We can marvel at the result in a four and a half minute video. The brand new Unreal Engine 5 was used.

There is something to see: Codeless Studio took care of the beginning of the game. We see Harry Mason looking for his missing daughter Cheryl in the gloomy and seemingly lonely streets. While doing so, he comes across the broken wheelchair that we know from the original in an alley. That there is a lot going on in this godforsaken place should become clear to him at the latest when he follows traces of blood to a mutilated corpse.

Can it work?

The question may be on the tongue of some of you. After all, Silent Hill actually seems to live – at least in part – from the limited graphics options that the first PlayStation offered at the time. Here, necessity became a virtue, because we often could not immediately recognize what exactly we were facing, which brought the feeling of a threat that was constantly lurking somewhere with it.

Codeless Studio is well aware of this, however, and retains a certain retro charm. But that works wonderfully with high-resolution details, for example if we pay attention to the dynamically fluttering awning right from the start.

In addition, fog and the small cone of light from a match in the dark constantly limit the range of vision. In addition, there is the typical nerve-wracking background noise that we immediately associate with the very special horror of the game.

Silent Hill deserves a remake – Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama believes that a remake of the classic would be difficult because the gameplay mechanics are so old. (via IGN) But as the video impressively shows, not only does the combination of retro atmosphere and brand new engine work great, the title is also simply unforgettable for many fans of the horror genre. So let’s hope Konami will enjoy this taste too.

How do you like the style for a Silent Hill remake and do you expect us to actually get one at some point?
