2022 already has 2 MMORPGs on its conscience – one of them is now dying for the 2nd time

While many new games will appear in early 2022, at least 2 MMORPGs will have to close their doors. The curious thing about it: one of them already shut down the servers in 2019. Now it has to set the reboot itself and dies again.

What are these MMORPGs? Eternal Magic was a free2play MMORPG from Chinese developer studio Duoyi. The game has boldly copied well-known greats like WoW and Guild Wars 2, among others.

It closed the servers on January 10, 2022 after announcing the end back in December 2021. The MeinMMO oracle Alexander Leitsch even correctly predicted the death of Eternal Magic at the beginning of last year.

The second MMORPG is Kritika:Reboot. The developers have announced that the servers will close on February 16, 2022. As of January 12th, players are no longer able to purchase anything in the cash shop.

Critique was known, among other things, for its action and for very unusual and sometimes questionable character design – such as little girls with big guns. The exciting thing is that Kritika:Reboot was already the reboot of Kritika Online.

“Lolis” with miniguns and bazookas- because why not?

Kritika Online died once before in 2019

This happened in 2019: The original version of the MMORPG, Kritika Online, closed its doors in April 2019 – at least in the West. The Korean version continued and players could even take their accounts with them.

However, the game would not accept his death. So there was a new edition about half a year later, in November 2019. Kritika:Reboot was supposed to revise some features and actually went down pretty well on Steam for release. We analyzed the game back then:

Kritika: REBOOT – Is it worth rebooting the online RPG?

Now, however, the reboot must also close its doors. Exact reasons are not given. However, Kritika:Reboot has only been able to attract an average of 100 players on Steam since October last year (via steamcharts.com). That’s not enough for a healthy MMORPG economy.

Which MMOs will still die in 2022? Although January isn’t even halfway through, 2 MMORPGs are already either dead or about to be shut down. In the next 12 months there will certainly be several more closures.

Our MMORPG expert Alexander Leitsch has already sat down at his crystal ball and made his predictions. Critique, however, was not among the MMOs he prophesied would die:

I predict: these 6 MMOs will die in 2022
