Ex-moderator of LoL denounces sexism in gaming live on the air

Indiana “Froskurinn” Black (30) was a commentator for the League of Legends European and Chinese leagues for 6 years. Now she has a new job in the USA. There she denounced sexism in gaming in a live broadcast. There was much applause for her emotional remarks.

This is froscurrin:

  • The 30-year-old American was closely associated with League of Legends for years. From 2015 to 2021, she moderated live streams from various LoL leagues, especially from China and Europe. The coverage that drives Riot Games to LoL is considered the global leader in esports. LoL is years ahead of other esports titles and Froskurinn has been an important part of the broadcast team.
  • In 2021 she announced her withdrawal from LoL. She switched to “G4”, a computer games broadcaster in the USA. It was originally between 2002 and 2014 – after a long break, the station came back in November 2021. G4 is roughly comparable to what was “GIGA” years ago in Germany.
  • In her new role, she moderates gaming programs, speaks texts that can be heard in gameplay videos, and works as an editor.

“It’s dehumanizing”

That’s what she says now: In the program “Gaming Grievances” on January 11th, the presenter denounced the sexism in gaming.

She said that when she joined G4, she was incredibly happy to do something she saw as a child, but every time you talk about G4 now, they talk about how she isn’t that “fuckable” be like previous moderators:

“Somehow the idea came up that you could say how hard you jerked off on a woman and that’s a compliment. That’s not it! It’s dehumanizing and it’s weird! Women are not there so that you can look at something pretty. “

In an almost 4-minute speech, Black explained how unfairly and separately women would often be treated and criticized. She is repeatedly interrupted by applause and calls to go on and “tell the people” from the studio.

For example, Frosurrentin says that she reads someone else’s text on one video. For the part of the script that she reads, she is severely criticized. Your male colleague, who reads the other half of the same script, doesn’t get any negative comments at all.

She says this behavior is just showing people their subliminal prejudice. This would ruin her day and at the same time exclude women from gaming:

“How about if we plan to be nicer to each other and to question ourselves more in 2022? We can also enjoy the fact that people are working hard to produce free content. If you don’t like it, just don’t look. “

In addition to an obvious sexism, where people simply say: They hate all women, there is also a subliminal sexism in gaming.

As an example of this “not so obvious sexism”, Froskurinn specifically cited Duncan “Thorin” Shields’ remarks on Twitter about women in esports. We reported on this in detail on MeinMMO.

A very emotional video in which Froskurinn scolds about sexism in gaming

The topic meets with tremendous response

What’s the reaction One clip of the video already has over 1.1 million views.

The reactions to the video show that the topic polarizes:

  • On the one hand, there is a lot of applause for Froskurinn’s emotional remarks. People say: “Finally someone speaks to the elephant in the room”. Others praise the fact that Froskurinn is so outgoing and find it “refreshing” that the whole studio is behind her.
  • But there are also critical voices who say: the moderator would use this discussion as an excuse to prevent legitimate criticism of herself and the formats of the broadcaster. Everyone gets “crap” on the Internet, and that is not just restricted to women.
