Dying Light 2: Cut vs. Uncut – These are the differences in Germany

You will only be able to purchase Dying Light 2 from retailers in Germany as a cut version and digitally. MeinMMO explains the differences and what you have to look out for when buying.

What content was cut? Dying Light 2 contains a lot of brutality, which shows in many places. It’s not just about bloody scenes, but also about inhuman behavior. In Germany, however, this is circumcised:

  • Human opponents cannot be decapitated or dismembered
  • Neutral NPCs cannot be killed

When we played Dying Light 2, these aspects weren’t strictly necessary for the game. They merely served to highlight the inhumanity of the world. Dying Light 2 takes place in a post-apocalypse and many people have no choice but to survive.

The story of the game itself as well as the gameplay should be as close as possible to the original version. The developers are trying to offer German fans the full experience as well – at least within the limits of the restrictions.

Play Dying Light 2 uncut in Germany – is that possible?

This is what happens when you buy the uncut version: Basically you can play Dying Light 2 uncut in Germany. You can’t buy the game in this country in the corresponding version.

There is according to developers no “region lock”, i.e. an automatic switch to cut content if you play in Germany.

You have to pay attention to this: However, if you decide to purchase an uncut version, you will not be able to play co-op with friends who have bought the German version. The two versions are mutually exclusive.

Dying Light 2 offers a co-op mode for up to 4 players. The progress of the story only applies to the host of the game, the scores of the other players remain unaffected. However, if you own an uncut version, you cannot play with players of the cut version.

Also, you might have problems in the future. Dying Light 2 will be supported for 5 years and will surely receive some DLCs during that time. These are usually evaluated separately.

If the responsible authorities decide that the following additional content has to be trimmed again or even ends up on the index, it will again no longer be available in full in Germany.

Developers are in talks with the USK

The regulations for curtailing games have changed in Germany in recent years. For example, the latest part of the Wolfenstein series, Youngblood, is no longer subject to the strict regulations and can be played uncut in this country.

Dying Light 2, however, seems to show too much brutality. The predecessor is still not playable in Germany because it was indexed. If a game ends up “on the index”, then advertising the game is prohibited and sales are only possible to a limited extent.

However, this is already being re-examined and the developers are in the process of obtaining a different rating for Dying Light 2 as well. However, it remains to be seen whether this will still work before the release.
