Hackers who leaked MacBook Pro schematics arrested

Those responsible for one of the leaks that has affected Apple the most have been arrested!

Apple’s fight to reduce leaks of its products has intensified over the past two years and has already begun to pay off. Finally, and after months of investigations, the authorities managed to identify and stop hackers responsible for leaking MacBook Pro schematics last year.

According to information shared from MacRumors, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) explained that it arrested 14 members of “REvil”, an organized criminal association that used malicious software to extort money from companies.

In addition to the famous leak that revealed details of the MacBook Pro’s redesigned notch, case design, ports, full-size function keys instead of the Touch Bar, and more, “REvil” members threatened Apple, from April 2021 with REvil threatened to release more schematics and documents for every day Apple didn’t pay a $50 million ransom.

After the first arrests last year when one of the members was captured and more than 6 million dollars were confiscated, the Russian authorities shared the intelligence work developed to destroy the entire organization:

“The search activities were based on the appeal of the competent authorities of the United States, which reported on the leader of the criminal community and his participation in the usurpation of the information resources of foreign high-tech companies through the introduction of malicious software. , the encryption of information and the extortion of money for its decryption”

After the effort of several governments and the capture of the members of the hacker group, the Russian authorities have confirmed that “REvil” has ceased to exist and its information infrastructure has been neutralized. REvil funds have been seized from 25 addresses in Russia, constituting more than 5.5 million in cryptocurrencies, cash, cars and equipment.
