Rumors are currently piling up about a new Mario Kart. The next part is said to be after Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are not called Mario Kart 9 at all, but instead carry Mario Kart 10 or the subtitle Crossroads. At least that’s what various leaks claim. They’re now joined by a new one, which may already contain clues as to which Nintendo brands will be included this time around (and which brands aren’t just Nintendo’s own!).

New leak: Mario Kart 10/Crossroads supposedly does without coins and two item slots

That’s what it’s about: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe could soon have a successor, after all, the franchise is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2022. Recently, there was a rumor that the next part could be called Mario Kart 10 or Mario Kart Crossroads. In addition, it was said that there should be an even stronger focus on uniting the many different Nintendo brands:

New leak mentions names: The next leak from the same source is now blowing the same horn. Again, it’s the people behind the LeakyPandy Twitter account who are trumpeting supposed information about the next Mario Kart out into the world. This time they go into much more detail and, for example, already reveal the first series of games with which there could be a crossover in Mario Kart 10.

Possible crossovers: In addition to Mario, Luigi and the other usual suspects, Advance Wars, Animal Crossing, ARMS, Balloon Fight, F-Zero, Kid Icarus, Splatoon and Zelda are also mentioned. This is only partially surprising, many of these franchises were already represented in Mario Kart 8 (Deluxe).

In addition, a crossover with Ubisoft’s Rabbids is in prospect, which would go well with games like Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. In addition to characters and race tracks, the crossover elements could also extend to the items.

Major gameplay changes planned? In addition to the overlaps with other Nintendo games, Mario Kart 10 could also introduce some other, more fundamental changes. According to LeakyPandy, the next Mario Kart says goodbye to coins and the second item slot. Instead, there could be large and small item boxes.

In small item boxes there are only individual tanks, a banana or, for example, a mushroom. In the larger item boxes there could then be the triple editions of the red tanks, a star or even more valuable things like a lightning bolt or a blue tank or something similar. In addition, a small item should be able to be upgraded if we drive through a box again.

But beware! As with all leaks, you shouldn’t be too happy – or angry. None of this has to come to us in the game, at this point we don’t even know if Mario Kart 10 is even in the works. Although that sounds quite likely in view of the anniversary. According to another leak, there should be a lot going on this year anyway and one of the best game lineups in a long time awaits us.

How do these ideas sound to you? What do you want from the next Mario Kart?
