New World: Developers reveal new details about upcoming updates – Announce PvP arenas

The developers of New World released a new video where they talked about the upcoming January and February updates. There were new details about the mutators and the design decisions behind them. In addition, the PvP arenas were announced at the end of the live stream.

What is the video about? In just under 38 minutes, various developers talk about the upcoming content and the reasons for some decisions. Particularly interesting is the section right at the beginning, which deals with the upcoming mutators for dungeons:

  • Regarding the mutators, for example, they explained that the feature had been in development for a long time and should now appear in January. However, game director Scot Lane himself admits that the change may come a little too soon.
  • There are also plans for mutators for the low-level dungeons, but there are still some balance issues.

The developers also commented on the upcoming February update:

  • The February update will focus entirely on bug fixes. Adjustments to the weapon swap, which fails every now and then, and to the wars are planned.
  • There is also a lot of focus on weapon balance.

At the end of the video there is also talk about “Small Scale PvP Arenas”. Such an arena was already found in data mining before the release.

No release date for patch 1.3 yet, but an approximate timeframe

What has been said about the upcoming patch 1.3? The video focuses a lot on the big January update and the contents of the patch. The developers have not yet been able to name a fixed release date, but the general plan is to bring updates to the PTR about 2.5 weeks before the actual release.

This statement excludes a release later this week. Since the update is supposed to come in January, January 26th and 27th are currently the hottest candidates for the release.

In the course of the video, the developers also explained the reasons for the upcoming shadow splinter system, which can be used to upgrade equipment to armor value 625. The system is intended to prevent equipment that has already been farmed from becoming worthless at high levels. That’s why no equipment with such a high value was introduced, but its own upgrade system.

They had previously announced in the forum that equipment with an armor value of 590+ can also be upgraded with the shadow fragments in the future.

The Garden of Cure is one of the endgame dungeons that are equipped with mutators.

What about the low level dungeons? The developers are currently working on bringing the mutators into the low-level dungeons as well. However, there were a number of problems:

  • Some dungeons would have different numbers of bosses and chests, which needs to be considered when balancing mutators.
  • In addition, there were already some bugs and balance problems around the mutators and the mechanics of bosses from the low-level dungeons. Some of these bosses are said to have been “broken”. Fine tuning is still needed here.

February patch focuses on bug fixes, bots and server transfers are in progress

What has already been revealed about the February patch? The next big update after the mutators shouldn’t bring any new features, but hundreds of bug fixes. Among other things, the following are planned:

  • Adjustments to weapon and armor perks
  • Some adjustments to the desync
  • Fixes for changing weapons, which should still not be cancelable
  • Bug fixes and performance in the wars
  • Adjustments to quests where NPCs were missing or markers were set incorrectly

What about general issues? In addition to bugs and performance, other problems are also being worked on. A second token for the server change should come in the future, so that players have the opportunity to look for another server.

The topic of bots was also discussed. This is a high priority and will be addressed by different teams, including support adjustments to speed up bans.

Small group PvP arenas are planned

What was said about the arenas? At the end of the live stream, the developers revealed that they are working on small group PvP arenas. They are “definitely planned”. It is said that the arenas will be equipped with fewer features at release, but that will be expanded over time.

It’s too early to go into details there, but Scot Lane himself says he’d like to play in a fixed 3v3 or 5v5 or whatever numbers are used scenario. The word “matchmaking system” was also used in this context.

What do you think of the information from the live stream? Are the announcements appealing to you, or would you have preferred to see other features in February and beyond?

Just a few days ago, a player was the first to find a hidden world boss, but only got pity from other players on reddit:
