Fan Mode was popular in Battlefield 2042 at launch, now it’s an in-game event

With a new update there was a change to the portal mode of Battlefield 2042. There you will now find a new feature: Zombie Survival. The mode actually comes from fans and has been popular since release. Now it can be played continuously for a short time.

What is this mode? In Zombie Survival you play in 4-player co-op against AI opponents. The highlight is that the opponents are “zombies” who only walk around with knives. This makes it easier for you to defend yourself against them.

The mode was created by fans in Battlefield Portal, where players can let off steam and create their own rules. In this case, the creator is the player StoneMountain64, but such zombie modes were created right at the release.

The modes were already used at the release of Battlefield 2042 to easily farm XP and level operators or weapons. The “zombies” also only had one life point, which made mass kills possible. But there were 2 problems with the mode:

  • dozens of farm lobbies clogged the limited portal slots, making other exciting modes unplayable or impossible to create
  • some of the lobbies were open so that players could join – but on the opponent’s side, where they were then farmed themselves

In the end it was decided that XP farming via such lobbies in Portal would be stopped altogether. The modes gradually disappeared. Now Zombie Survival is back.

How can I play Zombie Survival? From January 20th to January 27th, you can play Zombie Survival directly from the Battlefield 2042 Portal menu. There you will find the mode directly in the feature and can select it.

Players report that experience can even be gained here again to level up weapons and operators.

Zombies and Rush – Battlefield 2042 brings popular modes to the game

Zombie Survival is the second popular mode in Battlefield 2042 that has returned. The first was Rush, which was also limited in time but was only extended and brought back in full after a week’s absence.

Apparently the developers just want to show that they listen to the community and implement criticism. However, whether that will be enough remains to be seen. The required scoreboard should come in a new update, but for many fans this is too little and too late.

The condition of Battlefield 2042 has been bad in many respects since its release and is only slowly improving. Steam, of all places, which is known for its rather tough politics, shows how serious the problem is:
