One Piece is based, among other things, on the fact that there are so-called devil fruits. They give those who eat them superhuman strength. For example, Monkey D. Luffy, leader of the Straw Hat Pirates, ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi aka the Gum-Gum fruit and since then has been able to stretch his body like rubber, blow it up and much more. Where do the names come from? Until now, many fans thought that the names of the devil fruits were either known in advance or automatically popped up in the eater’s mind when the fruit was eaten. So that at the moment of eating they know what the fruit should be called. Both are obviously wrong.
Eiichiro Oda is the inventor and illustrator of One Piece and closely monitors his life’s work. Among other things, by answering many questions asked by his fans. This also includes the name of the devil fruit and the answer is quite surprising: RTFM! There is a book that lists all the Devil Fruits along with their names and abilities. Some would even include a picture of the fruit. Very convenient.

With some One Piece devil fruits, however, it was still unclear in advance what kind of powers they cause. For example, Kaku and Kalifa simply had to eat their fruits to find out what abilities they would give them. The name could only be found out afterwards.
