Online shooters are among the most popular games on the market. 2022 has a lot to offer again. MeinMMO tells you which shooter releases you should pay particular attention to.
So that you can prepare for the gaming year 2022, here are the most important releases from the shooter market. Here you can find PvP, PvE and PvPvE games scheduled for release in 2022. However, the announced dates can still change before the release.

The listed games are only sorted alphabetically. So this list is not a ranking, but an overview of the most important online shooter releases in 2022.

Crossfire X – For Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S
What kind of game is this? Crossfire X is a F2P shooter from the developers of the MMO Lost Ark. The PvP shooter was already a huge success in the Korean market. Now “Asia’s biggest shooter” is also set to make waves in the West. Here the game is distributed by Microsoft and appears exclusively for the Xbox consoles.

How does the shooter play? Crossfire X’s multiplayer mode is a bit reminiscent of Counter-Strike: 2 teams fight against each other, with the attackers wanting to plant a bomb and the defenders trying to prevent it. Game modes such as Team Deathmatch and Domination should also be available.
Unlike multiplayer, the game’s episodic single-player campaign will cost something. This was co-developed by Remedy Entertainment (known for Max Payne, Alan Wake and Control).
When is the game out? Crossfire X will be released exclusively on Xbox consoles on February 10, 2022.
ExoMecha – For PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S
What kind of game is this? ExoMecha is an MMO shooter that aims to be free-to-play. It’s primarily a battle royale, but other multiplayer modes are also available. As the name suggests, the game combines 2 sci-fi elements – exo suits and big mechs.
In the trailer you can see the action, which is reminiscent of a cross between Transformers and Titanfall:
How does the shooter play? ExoMecha attaches great importance to a flexible class and ability system.
Your soldiers with exo-suits can equip any abilities, weapons, and gadgets they want, but are limited in the amount. For example, if you want to have two active skills, you must give up a weapon and all passive skills in return. You can even make these changes in the middle of a round of Battle Royale to adapt to the circumstances.
Your Titanfall-esque mechs are also important. These are available to you like vehicles in a match. The mechs have to be adjusted before each round and are very versatile: in addition to large robots with swords and shields, there are also agile metal spiders and robo-dragons in the game.
When is the game out? The game was announced for Q1 2022. However, an exact date is currently not known.
Isonzo – Für PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S
What kind of game is this? Isonzo is the next PvP shooter from the makers of Tannenberg and Verdun. Again the First World War is the setting, this time the mountains of Italy are the battlefield.

How does the shooter play? After the trench warfare in Verdun and the control battles in Tannenberg, Isonzo focuses on a new game mode. In Italy’s mountains or ruined cities, one team attacks while another defends. The differences in altitude that the setting offers should have a strong influence on which strategies you have to use.
The game relies on large battles with up to 64 players. Developer M2H emphasizes how authentic they want to keep graphics, gameplay and atmosphere. Accordingly, your arsenal of weapons consists of the most important weapons of the First World War, as well as poison gas and mortars.
When is the game out? The buy-to-play game is scheduled for release in early 2022. There is currently no exact date.
Overwatch 2 – Für PC, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One und Xbox Series X | S
What kind of game is this? Overwatch 2 is the long-awaited sequel to Blizzard’s hero shooter. With a variety of characters, each with their own personality and special skills, the game is reminiscent of a cross between a PvP shooter and a MOBA.

How does the shooter play? The second part doesn’t change much, but some elements do change, sometimes dramatically. An unpopular game mode has been eliminated, teams reduced to 5 players and heroes sometimes drastically revised. So Blizzard hopes for a more intense and faster gameplay.
The biggest innovation is a co-op campaign that you should play very often thanks to the many characters with their new skill trees. For this purpose, the content of Overwatch 1 should be seamlessly integrated into the successor, so that you can play both games in the same matches.
When is the game out? There is currently no exact release date for Overwatch 2. However, despite a turbulent time at Blizzard, it should still appear in 2022. The announced release platforms shouldn’t change either, despite the spectacular Microsoft takeover.
Redfall – Für PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S
What kind of game is this? Redfall is the latest game from Arkane, makers of Dishonored, Prey and Deathloop. This game is an open-world first-person shooter that you can play solo or in co-op.

How does the shooter play? There was no official gameplay yet, but the trailer offers some insights:
In Redfall you can play as one of 4 survivors. These can use special abilities such as telekinesis, levitation or invisibility. Crazy weapons like cryo lasers and wooden stake harpoons are also at their disposal. A banging, cute robo-friend is there to help them.
When is the game out? The game is slated for release on PC and Xbox consoles in summer 2022. The game will likely be buy-to-play, but will be available through Game Pass upon release.
Splatoon 3 – For Nintendo Switch
What kind of game is this? Splatoon 3 is the latest installment in Nintendo’s massively successful PvP shooter franchise. According to Nintendo, the second part has already sold over 13 million copies (via Nintendo). The third part will also be played exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.

How does the shooter play? The special thing about Splatoon is the color mechanics: With your weapons you not only kill opponents, but paint the environment colorfully. Your own team color allows you to move quickly – but not the opponents. This makes for unique gameplay with a dynamic battle for map control.
Thanks to the colorful graphics and a solo campaign, Splatoon 3 appeals to a wide audience, but shooter fans can expect a treat, especially in 4v4 multiplayer: fast movement, short TTK, no aim assist thanks to motion controls, ranked modes, many weapons – this colorful game is a real hardcore shooter for fans.
When is the game out? There is no exact date for Splatoon 3 yet. However, it should appear exclusively as a buy-to-play on the Switch in 2022.
The Cycle: Frontier – For PC
What kind of game is this? The Cycle is a so-called PvPvE shooter by the German developer Yager. Towards the end of 2021 the game got a lot of attention then ended the beta. It will be released in 2022 under the name The Cycle: Frontier.

How does the shooter play? The Cycle is a free-to-play shooter whose gameplay is reminiscent of a mixture of survival game and Hunt: Showdown. So you not only fight against other players, but also against AI opponents. The developers call this a PvPvE game. Unlike its direct competition, The Cycle is a sci-fi setting on a strange and dangerous planet. Not only aliens are a danger here – the weather can also be deadly.
As in Hunt or Escape from Tarkov, the focus is on gathering resources and loot, which you lose completely when you die. There is also a social hub with different factions that feed you with missions. You use them to unlock new weapons and upgrades.
When is the game out? The F2P game will hit PC in 2022, with no specific date known.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands – Für PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S
What kind of game is this? Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands from developer Gearbox is a spin-off of the Borderlands games. So it’s another co-op looter shooter with funky humor, but sets that in a DnD-inspired world full of magic and fantasy creatures.

How does the shooter play? The most popular elements from Borderlands also appear in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands: 4 characters with deep and versatile skills, an insane amount of crazy weapons and a lot of humor. This time, however, everything is peppered with fantasy elements such as magic, dragons and fairies, which my MMO demon Cortyn likes very much.
The wondrous world that gives the game its name is a special unique selling point of the game: The game world is a colorful map that combines elements of tabletop RPGs with Pokemon-like mechanics
When is the game out? Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will be available as a buy-to-play title on March 25, 2022.
