Final Fantasy XIV: Player puts new raid boss solo as a warrior – “Please delete that”

The player Aka Ada made an impressive achievement in Final Fantasy XIV. He defeated the first boss of the current raid Pandaemonium (normal) alone and without a group. He played the warrior job, which is currently known for its extremely strong self-healing ability.

This is what Aka Ada did: A warrior has in that FFXIV subreddit caused a stir by single-handedly defeating Erichthonios in the new boss fight. He belongs to the new raid Pandaemonium at level 90 that was released with Endwalker.

These raid bosses are (usually) designed to be defeated with a group of 8 players. It doesn’t always have to be the classic role distribution of 2x tank, 2x healer and 4x DD, but it’s more than just one tank … recommended.

Accordingly, many players in the subreddit found the performance of Aka Ada amazing, although it was “only” about the normal and not the epic mode of the raid. Many comments noted that they experience wipes often enough in the fight, even with full groups:

  • “Wtf man you’re insane.” – Ok_Concentrate5128
  • “What a champion. Damn impressive.” – El_Rey_de_Spice
  • “It’s definitely impressive, but I really have to ask: why?” – ChisMorray

Some players also joked that if the warrior gets a nerf, it would now be his “blame” and jokingly asked him to please remove the video of his kill before the FFXIV team sees it. By the way, you can watch the video here:

Here’s how Aka did it: Aka succeeded in the big project of soloing a current raid boss thanks to the warrior’s blatant self-healing. While the tank already had solid abilities to keep itself alive in Shadowbringers, this went to extremes in Endwalker.

In addition to the regenerative skills such as fighting frenzy, equilibrium, shaking off the shield and various defensive cooldowns, the new Primal Impulse ability plays a key role:

  • It reduces damage taken by 10%
  • Creates a protective shield that absorbs damage
  • Allows the warrior to restore their HP with a healing potential of 400 per hit

On large pulls in normal dungeons where 3 or more enemies are attacked at once, the warrior regains HP for each enemy hit.

The duration of the ability is “only” 8 seconds, but the cooldown is only 25 seconds. This means a warrior can fully heal themselves every 17 seconds, as Aka demonstrates in his video. At just over 77,000 max HP, he can heal for up to 9,500 HP per hit.

The biggest problems, according to his reddit posts, were the correct timing of deploying defensive cooldowns and the “stack mechanics”. The players in the group have to stand in a small area and absorb the damage together.

It’s not possible alone, of course, but Aka found through calculations that by cleverly juggling his cooldowns, he could reduce the damage enough to survive the mechanic.

Since Pandaemonium’s normal mode has no enrage, Aka didn’t have to worry about his DPS either. He could take as much time in battle as was necessary.

“Healers are just a recommendation”

There are these reactions: As is usual, Warriors’ powerful self-healing has quickly become a meme in the FFXIV community. There have been many jokes posted about how overdone the Primal Impulse ability is since the release of Endwalker and its job upgrades.

“Healers are only a recommendation.”

Warrior was therefore secretly converted to a healer role. White mages or scholars would therefore be entirely optional when there is a warrior in the group. A warrior’s HP (healing per second) would be well above that of some true healers.

Others posted their chat logs from dungeons with requests like this: “Can you stop healing yourself so I have something to do? Do your rotation wrong or something lol”

But the expectation of a nerf reads between the lines. While the warriors have not experienced a nerf in either 6.01 or 6.05, patch 6.08 was announced by director Yoshida, which is intended to bring further balance changes.

What do you think of Aka Ada’s performance? Do you think the warrior should be nerfed or should other tanks get buffs instead? Tell us in the comments.
