Destiny 2: Players suspect a very special opponent in the new “The Witch Queen” raid

On Thursday in Destiny 2 the start date of the new raid announced. Some players are convinced that this raid in particular could change the understanding of the Destiny universe. He might finally reveal the greatest enemy yet. But who should that be? We got to the bottom of it.

For years Destiny 2 players have known the eternal struggle between the light and the dark. Darkness itself has always been viewed as “the ultimate enemy” in the Destiny universe.

However, Destiny’s story has never been easy to fathom. So it probably really won’t be that easy to label light and dark as pulling the strings. Maybe something much bigger than that awaits us.

In the swamps of Savathun’s throne world lies a sunken pyramid. Head inside with your fireteam and confront an ancient danger trapped within…

Bungie teases the new Witch-Queen Raid

In one of the new Witch Queen trailers, players have already been able to see some sort of creature that appears to be imprisoned in one of the buildings in Throne World. Maybe a so-called aphelion? Or even a creature of darkness that might be a materialized form of the entity is?

In the trailer you can see a strange creature

What we know so far:

  • In Savathun’s throne world, the Keepers will learn that both the Dark and the Light have secrets
  • A leak says the raid will feature two bosses and will likely include both Hive enemies and the Taken. Whether that means even two encounters is uncertain.
  • Savathun herself and her sister Xivu Arath will not be the opponent in the raid
  • The last boss in the raid is called “The Witness”.

Lore-interested players from the Destiny 2 community have therefore changed their perspective and believe that one of these imprisoned creatures of darkness may await us in the latest raid. Along with this, the true power could soon reveal itself: the so-called “entity”.

The Traveler.

The Traveler is not “The Light”

The pyramids themselves or the “Fleet of Darkness” serve a higher power. The light and the dark are not opponents, just cosmic abilities. They are paracausal. And little by little, paracausality in Destiny 2 becomes a very effective tool to prevent the final form.

In the Destiny 2 universe, this term is used to refer to an ability, event, or entity. All effects and events have a prior cause.

The darkness and also the light play a game. A much more complex version of that “Game of Life” von John Conway. This game will consistently lead them to an end state dominated by a single, self-perpetuating pattern that ties all others in the game together. The rules of the game are the laws of physics as they are commonly understood. The “new rules” that the light and the dark became are the basis of paracausality.

So, paracausal means that the light and dark obeys physics, but ignores and circumvents the conventional cause-and-effect system.

So the traveler is not the light. He just uses it and passes it on to us. There’s even some geometry involved: the light is a circle and the dark is a tetrahedron.

As it is the voice and form of light, the entity is the voice and form of darkness. She, too, has now provided the Guardians with a usable power: the Stasis ice ability.

So the entity has been around for a long time and Bungie cleverly teases it again and again:

  • Already in Destiny 1, Oryx apparently had contact with the entity (“The Formless”). From her he got the ability “to take” and created the possessed from it.
  • Calus tried again to communicate with the Darkness and the Entity via the Glycon. He has also previously mentioned speaking to her when he was once banished to the Leviathan and wanted a deal.
  • Savathun also speaks of “The Entity” with Kabal Princess Caitl in Season 13. At that time still disguised as Osiris, in a radio transmission on the Glycon.
  • And in Season 15, it’s mentioned in passing that the Taken are now subordinate to their original master again.
  • Finally, Mara Sov speaks to us and reports that “The Entity” controls the Black Fleet. So she too knows this power.

What does the entity want in the Destiny 2 universe?

The story of Destiny 2 is slowly forming a big whole and these many small hints even give a first glimpse of what we can expect in the expansions after Witch Queen. According to Bungie, the focus should then be on the final showdown between light and darkness.

In any case, Savathun is currently playing into the hands of her sister Xivu Arath, the goddess of war. All over the Destiny universe, thanks to her, there is conflict and war. More war also means more strength.

Savathun always has a plan: We know that the entity wants to find the strongest in this universe. She strives for the perfect form of strength, the “Final Form”. And that’s exactly the name of one of Bungie’s future expansions.

The only question is, why doesn’t Savathun have a problem with her sister gaining strength? Does she just want to be free? Or does she have a master plan after all and the guardians will find out on February 2nd, 2022 that all actions were cunningly planned by her down to the last detail?

If you look at the past, a random sequence of events is actually almost impossible:

What do you think? Will we be encountering the Entity in Destiny 2 anytime soon? And is this mysterious creature from the trailer actually an aphelion or something else entirely? Is the entity maybe just another name for the dark? Tell us your interpretation of the events in the comments.
