One of the biggest esports teams enters WoW and FFXIV, buys one of the top guilds directly

Well-known esports organization Team Liquid has announced that they want to get into the raiding scene of MMORPGs World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV. To do this, they take on the Limit raiding guild, which took the world first kills from Schloss Nathria and Ny’alotha for themselves.

This was announced: In a statement on their site, the international team Liquid has announced that they will be taking on the WoW guild Limit to get started in MMORPG raiding. This is one of the largest deals in Liquid’s nearly 22-year history.

The inclusion of the well-known WoW guild Limit should become a new pillar of the e-sports team, paving the way into the world of MMORPGs.

From the mystical regions of Azeroth to the boundless wonders of Eorzea, Team Liquid is going all-in on MMOs with investments in players, content creators, staff and more. Statement from Team Liquid

The first race for World First under the Liquid banner will be contested by the WoW guild with patch 9.2. For this, 35 or more members of the guild are gathered in one place, where they are accompanied by an all-round broadcast.

With the takeover by Liquid, the Limit guild also dropped its name and is now known simply as Liquid. Their guild members now also have the prefix Liquid, as is common in e-sports (Liquid Maximum, etc). They are managed by Liquid MMO General Manager Azorea.

Team Liquid is one of the most famous and oldest esports teams in gaming. It got its start in 2000 with the popular RTS game StarCraft: Brood War. Over the years, the team has expanded and expanded to a total of 14 of the largest e-sports games with over 60 active athletes. Their partners include such big names as Alienware, Monster Energy, Twitch and HyperX. You can find more about Team Liquid on their in-house website Liquidpedia.

This is limit: The guild became the first US team in 2021 to claim a world first kill on the final boss raid. Since then, they’ve been among the top raiding guilds in World of Warcraft, and have also racked up victories in Shadowlands’ first raid, Castle Nathria.

In December 2021, Limit separated from their parent company Complexity, with whom they had been partnered since 2019. The reason for this now seems to be the takeover by Team Liquid (via dotesports).

While Limit has a long history and experience in WoW, they are rather new to the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, which Liquid is also set to tackle.

In the summer of 2021, during the great wave of streamers in FFXIV, Limit raiders also tried their hand at Square Enix MMORPG battles. Led by (then) Limit Maximum, a group of WoW raiders completed Eden Epic.

Limit also participated in the short World First Race of the recently released Pandaemonium Raid. Participation, however, was more of a joke, because although the team around Maximum was able to put down all 4 fights relatively quickly, they oriented themselves to the streamers of other prog raiders in terms of strategies and solutions to the mechanics.

Now it seems that the project for World First in FFXIV is getting serious. The next big progress raid will be Thordan Ultimate. The Ultimate titles are particularly popular because they are some of the most difficult content that FFXIV has to offer.

It remains to be seen whether the newcomers can keep up with the MMORPG veterans or perhaps outperform them.
