According to the information he got from the Wikipedia page on the alchemical pseudo-science “spagyrics” has taken, the theory is based precisely on these 3 chemicals. These also fit surprisingly well with the current topic and story about Savathun.

The term “spagyric” briefly explained:
Originally coined by Paracelsus, the word spagyric comes from the ancient Greek σπάω spao (“separate, pull out”) and ἀγείρω ageiro (“to connect”, “recombine”, “gather”).
The method involves separating and then recombining the original elements known as the “Tria Prima”: sulphur, mercury and salt.

Lots in common with Savathuns Plan: The Witch Queen wants to separate, reconnect, or combine with your worm. That is her goal, which she has already openly declared to the guardians. And the first step, her worm exorcism, is imminent in the current story. So you can see some commonalities there.

Overall, chemistry and alchemy seem to play a big role in the new expansion anyway. Players were also able to discover chemical elements and symbolism on various pieces of armor and weapons.

Each character wears an element on their armor: The players now suspect a connection between the armor and the respective elements mercury, salt and sulfur. These three also represent mind, body and soul in alchemy. The hunter would be the mind, the titan the body and the warlock the soul of a fireteam.

Osmium is a chemical clue to Savathun’s homeland: The players on reddit all agree on the formula for osmium. This can only be a reference to Savathun’s original homeland.
