The three keys of the National Police to avoid skimming in ATMs

These are the recommendations that you should follow when using one of those many ATMs that you have on the street, to prevent them from cloning your card.

Although the different debit or credit cards allow us to pay much more easily in physical or online stores, they are also the main tool used by criminals to try to gain access to our bank funds.

And we are not talking about a physical theft of the card, but about a technique by which they could end up by copying the magnetic stripe of our debit or credit card to use it for fraudulent purposes, and obviously empty our bank account.

This is known as skimming, that is to say, the theft of information from our debit or credit cards at the time of the transaction, whether through an ATM or a store, and where criminals basically clone cards for later use.

In order not to be victims of skimming, the National Police has issued a tweet in which they offer a few tips to prevent criminals from having access to our card when we visit one of the ATMs.

They affirm that the most recommended is to go to ATMs that are illuminated, so that we can see that it has not been modified. And it is that what many criminals do is place a false reader on the real reader to make a copy of the magnetic stripe and know our PIN.

They also state that we must be sure that there are no foreign objects in the ATM, and obviously let’s cover the keyboard with one of our hands when we are entering the PIN.

There are many other pieces of advice that we can give you, such as trying to use the ATMs that are inside the banks since they are much safer compared to the exterior ones, but the most sensible thing is not to use ATMs where we see something strange.
