WoW on Xbox – Agree you disagree

We wanted to know if you would like to see World of Warcraft on Xbox – the result is a wild mix because you disagree.

Because Microsoft is about to buy Activision Blizzard and thus also get access to Blizzard IPs such as Warcraft, there is at least the thought that WoW could not also appear on the Xbox. After all, the rumor has been around for a long time and now would be the perfect time to put it into practice – wouldn’t it?

That’s exactly what we wanted to know from you in a survey a few days ago, and many of you took part. More than 3,700 of you cast your vote and thus made your opinion clear.

The largest group doesn’t want WoW on the console

With a whopping 42% (1,606 votes) of you, most believe that World of Warcraft absolutely has no place on consoles – not even on Xbox. World of Warcraft is an MMORPG that simply requires a keyboard and mouse and should not be played with a gamepad in hand.

The reasons for this are manifold and range from doubts about the feasibility to the concern that you will end up in a group with controller players who can then perform less well or do not participate in discussions in chat.

L4ch3s1s keeps the chances of this rather low:

“Like Microsoft is porting WoW to Xbox—never. Microsoft certainly won’t give up the shitstorm. It’s all about mobile, maybe cloud in the long run, but certainly not a port like that. I’ve only tried WoW once myself, but I can say: It’s not something that could be properly ported (too extensive for a controller).”

Or Alexander Ostmann, who simply says clearly: “No, thank you!”

The result

Almost 40% want to see and experience WoW on Xbox

The second largest group sees it exactly differently. A total of 38% and thus 1,431 votes want to see World of Warcraft on the console. In their opinion, World of Warcraft is long overdue for Xbox.

After all, other MMORPGs like Final Fantasy XIV have already demonstrated that this genre can also be played wonderfully with a gamepad. Quite apart from that, there are already some players who enjoy WoW on the PC with the gamepad – since Shadowlands, controller support has been firmly integrated into the game, additional addons improve the experience even more.

For example, Keupi writes:

You’re welcome. Controller and mouse can be used. I would be glad.

McPhil says:

Why not? I’ve already seen videos with controllers, FFXIV and Neverwinter show how it works with controllers.

Or David, who sees this as a long-cherished dream:

Of course I would want that, it would certainly make a decades-old dream come true.

Few want WoW just as part of Xbox Game Pass

The smallest group, at 20% (753 votes), thinks that WoW should come to Xbox – but only if it’s also part of Game Pass. Then World of Warcraft would be “free” for everyone who owns the Game Pass. The advantage is obvious: access to hundreds of current games and at the same time the freedom to look into World of Warcraft at any time.

In this column we have described that this would not happen without problems and that Blizzard may not even want it.

It remains to be seen whether World of Warcraft will eventually appear on Xbox. In any case, it is clear that you as our readers have a very divided opinion on this topic.
