In Lost Ark you can now rivet your opponents with a brush and paint – This is how the new class works
On January 12th, the newest class in the MMORPG Lost Ark started with the Painter or Artist, depending on the translation. At least in Korea, players can now destroy various monsters with paint. Here at MeinMMO we explain how the new class works.
What class is it? The new class that Lost Ark has gotten is called Painter or Artist, depending on the Korean translation. So they are artists or painters and only playable as female characters.
It introduces a completely new basic class, apart from marksman, warrior, magician and Co, it is a specialization of the basic class specialist. The specialists are female, somewhat childlike creatures with cat ears. Accordingly, the painter is also equipped with cat ears and appears small and young.
Incidentally, the new specialist basic class is to be fed further in 2022. So far, the developers of Smilegate have teased a kind of weather magician, which should also be released in Korea later this year.
How does the Painter play? The Painter offers an exciting combination of support class and DPS class. To ensure this variety, the new class alternates between black and white ink, which they smack onto their brush.
If you expand your skills in the direction of damage, the lady mixes some red into the paint pot to signal that it’s about to hurt. However, the eye-catching colors and sometimes long casting times allow you to see immediately whether the painter is about to cause damage or support you.
This mix makes Painter particularly interesting for support class fans who don’t want to lag as far behind in damage as Bard players are currently putting up with. The Painter can also easily outperform the Paladin in terms of damage.
It has few disadvantages and even offers far more mobility than its two support colleagues. So it’s also suitable for you if you like playing DPS classes, but don’t have to be at the top of the DPS board and like to support your friends.
When is she coming to us? That is still uncertain. Many suspect that Amazon will focus in 2022 on adding the summoner, which was supposed to be there from the start but was then dropped.
Amazon also said they want to work on the gender lock in the game and loosen it further. The female version of the Berserker, which was also announced, should also have priority.

The painter is an ideal addition to any group
What can Painter offer to the group? Aside from doing damage and healing to yourself, there are many other situations you can help your party with as a painter. For example, many new class skills leave a debuff on the target that causes the entire party to deal 10% more damage to the enemy.
She can also use her Identity skill to unleash a buff that increases damage by 10% again for the entire party. So it’s very easy for the painter to give the whole group 20% more DPS. That alone would be very strong, but she can do much more.
Similar to her support colleague, the Bard, the Painter can also provide speed bonuses and mana regeneration. There is even a heal for the group in their skill kit.
But the Painter really shines when it comes to shields. Because the new class has 5 different skills, some of which give the entire group enormous shields. Thus, it can cushion a lot of damage to the group and is perfect for boss fights.
The special something: Now the Painter already does more damage than the Bard and the Paladin and can do a lot of what its support colleagues can do just as well or even better. But that’s not all, because the Painter has another support ace up its sleeve.
The painter can create portals for her party. You can place them freely on the battlefield without having to be there. So you can sort of throw these portals. Party members can then use the portals to teleport to your location instantly.
This is especially useful in boss fights, as the Painter can already leave the danger area and her DPS comrades-in-arms can catch up with a portal. This has the advantage that the damage classes can continue to damage the boss up to the last second, instead of fleeing from dangerous mechanics.
How does your identity skill work? Each class in Lost Ark comes with a special ability. This is called in the MMORPG identity skill. The Painer deals damage to charge, and can then charge up to three orbs total for her ability.
Each activation of the ability then consumes one of the charged orbs. You can choose to activate the ability with Z, which gives your group a 10% DPS buff, or with X to heal yourself.
Both abilities consume the same amount of energy, which, as described, can be recharged by dealing damage to opponents.
The community loves the new class
How is the Painter received? The class is incredibly popular on the Korean servers. She even made sure that Lost Ark recently broke its player record and 260,000 people were logged in at the same time.
The overall feedback from the Korean community is positive and most fans are very pleased with the new class. The feedback from Europe fluctuates a lot more. The Painter has not yet appeared there and will not do so at the start, but some players are showing displeasure.
This isn’t exactly surprising since the childlike-sweet style of the Specialist class is likely to be more popular in Korea than it is in Europe or Germany. Many fans in this country are already negative about the appearance of the class.
What are the fans saying? The comments under a video in which a Korean YouTuber introduces the class in more detail and kindly translates some of the skills into English are consistently positive. People seem to love the Painter (via YouTube).
