Many do not like the new CoD Warzone map – a feature from Apex Legends should help

In Call of Duty: Warzone, some players want Apex Legends map rotation. On MeinMMO you can find out what a rotation would bring, why players want it and why the feature is unlikely to come.

That’s what it’s about:

  • The free-to-play battle royale shooters Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends share basic rules, but are otherwise completely different.
  • While Warzone relies on 2 fixed maps, Apex has a map rotation that regularly exchanges the playable maps in the different modes.
  • Warzone players also want map rotation, but fear the consequences for their hard drives.

Apex map rotation is coming for Warzone

On reddit, players are discussing whether Warzone would do well with a map rotation like in Apex Legends (via reddit.com). With this feature, there is a regular rhythm that rotates the playable cards and provides more variety.

The thread was able to collect over 2,500 upvotes within one day and is currently one of the biggest topics in the Warzone subreddit.

How is it currently in Warzone? The Battle Royale has 2 maps on offer:

  • The large main map “Caldera”
  • The small inset “Rebirth Island”

The requests for a rotation are primarily about the large main map Caldera.

How is Apex right now? In EA’s Battle Royale there is a lively rotation of the maps for the two modes “Battle Royale” and “Arenas”. The cards are only active for a few hours and change frequently.

Warzone players want their old map back – chance is low

What do players say about this? In the discussion on reddit, users interpret the rotation idea in two different ways:

  • A group wants it like in Call of Duty multiplayer: after each match there is a different map
  • Others understand the idea that there is only one map at a time, which is then swapped out regularly

Some players complain about Caldera because they feel the map is too empty and they don’t meet enough enemies. In her opinion, Verdansk offered more “points of interest” that were closer together and therefore potentially more likely to attract an opposing team.

Others found Verdansk to be “empty” and are ardent supporters of the Caldera island paradise.

Most agree, however, that Warzone would do well with a map rotation. And here is the heart of the discussion: you know that somewhere on the dev servers are the two versions of Verdansk, but only one map can be played – Caldera.

Why isn’t the feature coming to the Warzone? There are two reasons for this, which cannot be easily eliminated:

  1. Warzone’s maps are always evolving over time and this is an essential part of Warzone’s content strategy. Supplying several maps with live service would significantly increase the effort.
  2. Warzone is already HUGE. Every player should keep a good 200 GB free on their hard drive in order to be able to enjoy CoD’s Battle Royale

It seems like a very large development effort to change things on Warzone’s maps. Large adjustments to the maps are the exception rather than the rule.

The opening of the stadium on Verdansk 1 and the ground canyons on Verdansk 2 were the biggest changes to the maps, otherwise the maps stayed more or less in their release state.

In addition, there is the large memory requirement for the Warzone content. In the reddit thread, many users independently suspect that Warzone with 3 maps in the rotation would probably need 1 terabyte of memory. Their SSD hard drives are already out of breath from the current Warzone.

How could it be? Recently there were leaks for a sequel to Warzone. In 2023 there will probably be a kind of “Warzone 2”, which will only appear for the current generation of consoles and the PC.

That would probably be the earliest point at which such a drastic change could be introduced.

The current premium CoD Vanguard shows that Call of Duty games can do with less memory. The shooter streams high-resolution textures while playing, reducing memory requirements.

Whether the developers are making a change of strategy on this point cannot be said at the moment. What you think of a map rotation, but you can tell us in the comments.
