Destiny 2: Witch Queen Has Guardians Distressed – Is It Okay to Use Hive Babies as Ammunition?

In Destiny 2, the new worm launcher “Parasite” from Witch Queen is causing some discussion. However, it is less about the type or damage of the weapon and more about a fundamental conflict of conscience. Is it okay to shoot worm larvae, the babies of the flock? MeinMMO got to the bottom of the matter.

Normally, with new weapons in Destiny 2, the topic of discussion is how they work and, more importantly, the advantages of a particular weapon. But after the release of the first trailer for the brand new weapons from Witch Queen, the guardians have completely different concerns. It is above all the special ammunition that is currently the focus.

Which weapon is it? The discussion revolves around the new worm launcher “Parasite” coming into play with the Witch Queen expansion. This is a ball launcher that uses the worm larvae of the flock as ammunition.

  • The trailer shows a Guardian using the weapon
  • To load the weapon, the Warden grabs a worm larva and stuffs it into the magazine
  • After that, the worm larva can be fired as a projectile
  • The weapon’s damage also increases

Is it okay to shoot “worm babies”? What looked cool at first turned strange when the Guardians began to think more deeply about this very special ammunition. “But these aren’t baby worms?” Asks the user Economy_Vermicelli90 on reddit.

The term “worm larva” would already mean that they are the babies of the flock, i.e. an early stage of development.

I can just imagine our pockets full of the slimy little guys and we stuff our hands in there to snag one and put it in the gun.

Players who deal with the lore point out that it is rather the larvae of the worm gods and thus serfs represent the youngest stage of development of the flock. However, that doesn’t change the fact that the not particularly cute and rather slimy little guys are basically still babies.

Through the Destiny lore and a mind scan you learn that worm larvae are bred in swarm nests. Every individual, for example a serf or an acolyte, has such a worm larva. However, they are not the Hive; they are actually descended from the Worm Gods.

The worms themselves do not control the host. They only strengthen him and give him access to sword logic. In return, their “hosts” feed them the bloodshed and violence of their horrible deeds. Their appetites increase as their hosts grow stronger.

If a Warden shoots an Acolyte or Knight in the head, the worm larva will leap out and flop to the ground, writhing. Since they are no longer bound to a host, they starve after a short time and burst. The worm larvae themselves do not appear to have any special intelligence. Only their divine parents are different. It was they who originally persuaded the Proto-Hive to ingest the worms and exploit their fears and insecurities. So, evolutionarily, the Hive is about as smart as it was millions of years ago, only its biology has changed.

Already the second moral dilemma: There was a similar controversy in Season of the Splicer. Back then, it was cute fallen babies that could quickly win over the big hearts of many a keeper. The motto at that time was: “Protect the fallen babies!”. Before the sweet babies of the Eliksni were known, no Fallen opponent was safe from a Lightbearer’s weapon.

In fact, the Destiny 2 community was so excited about the cute Eliksni babies that Bungie made them specially the Eliksni hatchling emote created and even brought a replica of the little rascals as a rag doll in the Bungie store.

Opinions on the subject are controversial: Some players have no problem shooting at their opponents with small worm larvae. Other Guardians are still confused. GawainSolus finally gets to the point when he says: “Worms aren’t flock babies, they’re parasites.” And that’s also the name of the new weapon “parasite”.

Whats your opinion? Do you have a problem shooting out the little worm larvae? Will we even be able to cuddle cute worm larvae as a stuffed animal soon or will the keepers give the slimy guys a treat in a new emote? Please tell us in the comments.
