Pokémon GO: Lost Account shows why you should secure your login data twice

Every account in Pokémon GO is unique, and many Trainers take pride in what they’ve accomplished in the game over time. It is all the more painful when you can no longer access your profile and everything seems lost. This is now being reported in the reddit community. We at MeinMMO tell you what happened.

What is it about? If you want to play Pokémon GO, you have to create a player profile at the beginning. All progress is saved. Unlike other games, however, Pokémon GO is about much more than just leveling up. Due to the different possibilities in the game, each account is something very special.

Above all, the numerous Pokémon that have been caught and exchanged over time, but also the collected medals make many players proud. But now the trainer Amyrantha_verc is reporting in the reddit community that his friend’s account has suddenly disappeared. But what happened?

Trainer no longer arrives at level 50 account

As the reddit user Amyrantha_verc reports in his post, his friend recently reached level 50. When he tried to connect to his Google account, the login failed and a new level 1 player profile was created using the same Google email address. Looking for help, he turned to the reddit community (via reddit.com).

The post attracted a lot of attention and had almost 2,000 upvotes within a very short time (as of February 3, 2022 at 11:30 a.m.). Losing your account and having to start over at level 1 is unthinkable for most trainers.

The user aarpcard, on the other hand, jokingly asks if that’s what happens when you finally reach level 50 (via reddit.com). But what could be the reason that Amyrantha_verc’s friend can no longer log into his account? The reddit community is investigating this question and trying to help.

Possible reasons from the perspective of the community

Many users initially suspected in the comments that the login data had been entered incorrectly and also recommend checking whether the nickname is still stored in the friends list.

So Vulpes_macrotis writes: “Are you both sure it was linked to that specific Google account? Wasn’t it through Facebook, another Google account or something? I mean are you guys more than sure? Sometimes the memory can be wrong. Also check if you can see his nickname in the friends list.” (via reddit.com)

And other trainers also suspect a change in email address by changing smartphones or by registering in another Nantic game, such as PikimBloom. So some recommend contacting Niantic support.

Another assumption is unauthorized access by a hacker. Turbulent-Ad6384 reports that in an earlier update, users’ names were hacked and they could no longer log into their own accounts (via reddit.com).

Experiences of other trainers and how you can protect your accounts

But in the comments you will also find one or the other like-minded people. Other trainers also report that something similar has happened to them in the past (via reddit.com):

  • IllustriousGuide3450: “This happened to my main account from 2016 about 1 year ago and as I had already opened a new account there was nothing they were able to do as they told me. You could try, but don’t get your hopes up too high.”
  • Axenrott_0508: “I only got mine back a few months ago. Something similar happened to me.”
  • Deoxys_nuts: ” This has happened to me too. My Gmail account (which I signed up with) disconnected from my Pogo account. And when I logged back in, it just created a new account with that email. I got through the tutorial because I thought it would magically remember my old account. Luckily, I was able to log in using the Apple login. If he doesn’t have one, try his Facebook account if it was ever linked.”

Level-Particular-455 also explains in the comments that the reactivation of a profile is not completely unthinkable. According to this, Niantic does not delete accounts, even if you wish to do so yourself.

How can you protect your accounts?

From his own experience, reddit user Deoxys_nuts has a clear opinion on this and advises all players: “Everyone should check their account and link it to multiple services to avoid this situation.” (via reddit.com).

This is actually a useful tip. If the connection to one of the services is lost due to technical difficulties, then you have another login option and your account is not completely lost. It is also important that you do not pass on your login data to other trainers.

However, as Amyrantha_verc has since reported, his friend’s Pokémon profile was actually hacked. Probably by a coach he knows. The matter was reported to Niantic. It remains to be seen whether he will get his profile back (via reddit.com).

Has something like this happened to you that you suddenly couldn’t get into your profile anymore? How did you save your account? Or did you actually have to start over? Write us your opinion and experience here on MeinMMO in the comments and exchange ideas with other trainers.
