Blizzard reveals: New Warcraft game coming later this year

Another announcement from Blizzard is causing a stir. Warcraft is finally going mobile – and much earlier than expected.

Warcraft fans have one beautiful announcement after another this week. Not only was boosting communities stopped, but cross-faction play was also announced, where Horde and Alliance can play together. Barely a day later, Blizzard revealed another little highlight:

Warcraft is getting a mobile game later this year.

Where does the info come from? Straight from Blizzard from the Fourth quarter financial report of the financial year 2021. It was published last night, February 3, 2022.

What exactly was said? In the financial report there is a line that – translated into German – says:

Blizzard is planning substantial new content for the Warcraft franchise in 2022, including new experiences for World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, and will ensure all-new Warcraft mobile content is getting into player hands for the first time.

This clearly confirms that Blizzard is planning a Warcraft mobile for this year, which you can soon play on your smartphone.

Is the release really already in 2022? Whether the release is already scheduled for this year is questionable. The text is not formulated very clearly, so it could also mean that Warcraft Mobile will only start an alpha or beta test in 2022. In any case, however, it is well established that it should start in some way this year.

What game could that be? That is still the big question. Not all games are suitable for mobile and those who are waiting for a port of World of Warcraft will probably be left out.

A genre with the popular Blizzard heroes that is already established on the mobile market would certainly be possible, such as a hero collecting game or a mobile strategy game.

However, there is no concrete information yet. So it remains to be seen whether Blizzard will give us more information in the coming weeks and months or whether we will have to wait for a spontaneous reveal.
