Apple seriously considered including Face ID in the iMac M1

Apple had plans to finally include Face ID on Macs, but it seems that for now we will have to wait.

Face ID is the best facial recognition available on a smartphone or tablet, designed and created by Apple. In the vast majority of cases it is a very comfortable identification system as well as safe, and it would make a lot of sense for it to come to Macs.

For several generations, the MacBook keyboard includes Touch ID for our identification. But nevertheless The possibility of incorporating Face ID has always been rumored, and now we know that Apple raised it during the design of the iMac M1 released in the year 2021. At least, so Mark Gurman has stated, which does not rule out its arrival in the future.

Face ID was on the cards in the original iMac M1. Naturally, the iMac is the thickest Mac with a built-in display, since Apple laptops have fairly thin screens.

Possible on iMac, impossible (for now) on MacBook

The current problem with Face ID right now is the size of all the sensors. On the iPhone we have only been able to shrink slightly after many generations, and keep in mind that the thickness of the screen of a MacBook is very interior to that of an iPhone or an iPad.

Face ID Mac

At the moment Apple does not plan to release a Mac with FaceID.

At that time, Gurman indicates that in case Face ID arrives on the Mac, I would do it first to the iMac. Only when technology improves could Apple include Face ID on MacBooks.

At this time, the technology to put Face ID on the MacBook’s slim screens doesn’t exist. So if Face ID does come to the Mac, I think it will be on an iMac or external monitor first. Apple has definitely been working on this, but time will tell if they release it.

iPhone 15: rumors return about a revolutionary Face ID

One Mac is an ideal device to incorporate Face ID. We’re always looking at the screen when using it, and Touch ID may not be as smooth as you have to look away from the screen to use the keyboard.
