Researchers are converting Skyrim’s skeletons into ‘real people’ – this is what the living dead looked like before
Skeletons should not be missing in any fantasy game. But have you ever wondered what the undead bones looked like before they died? Twitter user Sulkalmakh does, because that’s his job. For the page Ancestral Whispers he reconstructs the faces of people who lived many centuries ago. His Twitter feed features minds from all different ages and places on earth. But one entry stands out:
Facial reconstruction of an ancient atmoran from Saarthal, dated to the late Merethic age.

Skyrim skeletons are not like other skeletons
The above description should mean nothing to historians, but nerds and Elder Scrolls fans do. Because the picture is actually a facial reconstruction of the skeletons from The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.
The skulls have turned into a grim-looking man with a wide jaw and chin, small eyes and thick eyebrows, who somehow seems likeable, but also slightly spooky when we realize that he actually attacks us as a skeleton in the game.
According to that TES Wiki The Atmorans are the first humans in Tamriel and the ancestors of the Nords.
The Creator speaks out: The scientist receives praise for his work from Jonah Lobe himself, the artist behind the Skyrim skeletons. “Great job with the reconstruction,” writes Lobe. “I wanted them to look loutish, with wide jaws, thick eyebrows, and like Neanderthals. Exactly like that.” In order for the skeletons to stand out from other depictions, Lobe wanted to make them as wide and frightening as possible, quite different from the usual rattling figures.
Skyrim is now also available as a board game:

More news from Skyrim:
The next part of the Elder Scrolls series will probably not go into full production until work on Starfield is completed. Unfortunately, that also means we’ll have to wait years for our return to Tamriel.
Jonah Lobe also had to comment on The Elder Scrolls 6 after a fan asked him if he was currently working on the game. “No,” was the artist’s reply. Of course we don’t know if Lobe will join the team later or if he has nothing to do with the title at all.
How did you imagine the skeletons in Skyrim?
