The new Mass Effect reaches a major milestone and is finally in early development

For now, we're probably left with the Legendary Edition of the original trilogy.

For now, we’re probably left with the Legendary Edition of the original trilogy.

There’s an update to Mass Effect 4 (probably not the official title) that will please fans of the series while reminding us how far the game is. in one blog post Bioware states: “The next game in the Mass Effect universe is now in an early stage of development.”

For now, no news on the next Mass Effect

This completes the prototype phase and development can begin. That’s good, however, according to the studio, there won’t be any new details on the title for a while. The release is probably several years in the future.

Why is this taking so long? It’s amazing that a year and a half has passed between the announcement of Mass Effect 4 and the start of development. But the game has some hurdles to overcome. For one thing, a large portion of Bioware is currently busy working on Dragon Age 4 and will only join the Mass Effect team once development is complete.

On the other hand, ME4 should get a new engine and leave EA’s own Frostbite engine behind. There is a lot to suggest that Bioware will switch to Unreal Engine 5. This means a certain training period, especially since the technology has only been officially on the market for a few days.

Here you can at least see what Mass Effect 2 would look like in Unreal Engine 5:

Here’s why Mass Effect 4 was announced so early: Bioware has lost a lot of credit with the fans. Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem ruined much of the reputation the studio had worked hard to build. The early announcement of the new parts of Dragon Age and Mass Effect was probably intended to demonstrate to the community as well as to the EA shareholders that Bioware is on the way to its old size.

For a long time we will only have the announcement teaser of ME4:

The next Mass Effect has a first trailer

That’s what we know about the story

Unfortunately, we have to stick to vague allusions so far if we want to guess the plot of Mass Effect 4. The first teaser suggests that Commander Shepard may indeed return, one way or another. In addition, the next branch could connect the stories of the trilogy and Andromeda. A published poster also seems to allude to the geth coming back as well. We are curious.

Do you think it’s wise that Mass Effect was announced way before actual development started?
