Inga Czwalina misses victory in the Grand Prix in Bad Schwartau

Inga Czwalina’s good mood was not spoiled by the fact that it wasn’t quite enough to win the Grand Prix in the Riesebusch at the end. With “Nurmi”, the 44-year-old from the Fehmarnsche RRV took third place behind Peter Jakob Thomsen (RuFV Südtondern Leck) on “Clooney” and Christin Schulz (RFV An der Talmühle) at the final highlight of the five-day dressage and show jumping tournament of the RV Bad Schwartau Havekost) with “Nascari”.

“Riding like before the corona pandemic”

“It was just great, it was a lot of fun. It was finally like competitive riding as it was before the corona pandemic,” explained Czwalina. “Full grandstands, every ride was applauded, that was goosebumps atmosphere. Some horses even reacted with amazement at the now unfamiliar scenery,” said the experienced show jumper.

And even without winning the Grand Prix, it was an extremely successful weekend for Czwalina. Two victories (M**-jumping and M**-two-phase-jumping) and a second place (M*-jumping) on ”Quinta”, a second place with “C’est ca” (M**-two -phase jumping) and third place with “Nurmi” at the final highlight are for them in the giant bush. Overall, it was the female riders who dominated in Bad Schwartau. A woman was at the top of the podium in all 13 dressage tests and in twelve of the 17 jumping events. All results are there here.

Thomsen wins the Grand Prix in Bad Schwartau

Three couples had reached the jump-off of the Kl.S*-jumping, in which the veteran Thomsen (51) on “Clooney” put down the fastest round without any mistakes in 40.53 seconds. Schulz was also without a knockdown with “Nascari”, but was significantly slower (42.73) – Czwalina, on the other hand, was on par with Thomsen in 40.88 seconds, but made a mistake. “I wasn’t the right distance from the obstacle, that was clearly my fault. But something like that can happen quickly when riding fast in a jump-off,” explained Czwalina.

And so in the end it was Thomsen who die succeeded Sven-Gero Hünicke. Czwalina’s 25-year-old team-mate was only there as a spectator this time. “He competed at an international tournament in Westergellersen at the weekend. But he didn’t miss the opportunity to stop by here at the Grand Prix,” said Marc Scheel, the 1st chairman of the RV Bad Schwartau, who was beaming with the sun at the end. “It was a great horse show. On Easter Monday alone, there were over two thousand spectators at the facility, and all of the participants were enthusiastic. That gives a lot of impetus for planning the 2023 tournament.”
