LoL hints at the next 3 new champs that could still be coming in 2022

The MOBA League of Legends now has 159 champions: With Zeri and Renata Glasc, the last two came into play in January and February 2022. But there are other plans. In a developer post, the next 3 heroes are now indicated. A new jungler, top laner, and bot laner could be coming to LoL as early as 2022.

How many new heroes come to LoL each year? Champions in LoL are long in development and then come into play at different times. The plan is more or less to bring five new champs each year, ideally one for each role. It also works halfway like this:

• In 2019 there were 5 champions
• 2020 came 6 new ones
• In 2021 there were only 4
• In 2022, 2 new Heden have already appeared with Zeri and Renata Glasc, a botlaner and a supporer – Riot hints that 3 more new legends could still be added in 2022, but does not say that with absolute certainty. That should be jungler, another botlaner and a toplaner.

It now says in a new blog post:

During the last champion plans, I mentioned that we were going to be shutting down the production of new champions for a while. We want to make sure every champion gets the time and attention they need to shine at release, even if that means we’re no longer able to create a new character for each position every year. While we’re not sure exactly how many champions we’ll be releasing this year, it should be about the same as last year.

So it could be that all 3 heroes that Riot outlines now are still coming in 2022, making it 5 heroes. Maybe there will only be 4 like in 2021.

Next jungler sounds like Kerrigan from StarCraft

Here’s what you know about the next jungler: The next new heroine should be a jungler who comes from the “Void”, i.e. from the emptiness. It should be an empress to submit to.

One speaks of “true elegance, true beauty and the true face of emptiness”. It’s supposed to be a skirmish jungler.

As early as January 20221, it was suspected on reddit that the new jungler in LoL could function like a kind of “Kerrigan” from StarCraft 2 and take over the map with voiding creatures. Kind of like an “evil broodmother” who takes possession of everything.

Cheerful but deadly – is that a sea otter waddling onto the botlane?

Here’s what you know about the next botlaner: According to LoL, the next botlaner will be a “colorful but deadly stranger” who came to Runeterra across the sea.

Apparently, the new hero laughs a lot and has a “water and fog” theme. In January it was suggested that it was an “unconventional botlaner” waiting for us.

One jokes on reddit: This could be a laughing sea otter that you can then go “full Disney” with by playing it together with Zoe and Yuumi.

In Lol there are some champions that resemble animals like Volibear (bear), Renektorn (crocodile) or Anivia (bird). An otter could fit in there.

New top laner could fill cultural gap

This is what you know about the next top planer: The last new champion is supposed to be a top planer, he’s supposed to be the “Pride of Nazumah”, a region of Shurima that nobody has visited before.

There are hints that it could be a tank from a desert region. On reddit one suspects it could be a proud warrior with a lion motif. Others hope to get a champion representing the Earthly region of North Africa.

Many seem to be waiting for such a hero, who could fill a gap in LoL.

New heroes in LoL are delicate, Riot often doesn’t get the balancing right and has to make adjustments:
