New MMO on Steam makes Arena PvP from WoW its own game, says: Skill is everything

Ring of Titans, a new MMO that is fully focused on PvP, has entered Early Access on Steam. You fight in different arenas against other players. The concept and the general structure of the game reminds many of the arenas in WoW, as they also write in the reviews.

What kind of game is this? In Ring of Titans you play a titan with which you compete against other players in PvP:

  • You fight either in 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3. There are also bot rounds for training.
  • You choose one of eight different titans who immediately have all the skills, abilities and talents.
  • You have access to 12 different skills and can choose from 6 class talents and 6 general talents.
  • All users have the same gear and there is no RNG, for example through critical hits or random resistances. Only the skill should decide.
  • There is a leaderboard that you can climb.
  • There is a spectator mode and replays for your matches.
  • The game does not use Pay2Win.

Ring of Titans has been in Early Access since March 1st and is Free2Play. The developers promise some updates before the full release, including new titans.

How is the game financed? There is a shop where you can buy skins for mounts, armor and titles. However, these have no influence on the gaming experience.

YouTuber Snupy took a look at the game and recorded a video about it:

Plays like an arena in WoW, only without the grind before it

How is the game doing? At the time of writing, Ring of Titans has 334 reviews, 78% of which are positive. These reviews praise the fact that the battles should be action-packed, fun, and most importantly, that there is no grind in the game. So you don’t have to level or equip a character like in WoW, you have immediate access to all content.

The user Zeecho writes in his review:

This game is perfect for arena lovers of all genres. No equipment, no leveling and no great preparation. Just log in, choose a titan and play. The developer seems totally dedicated to improving the game and actually listens to the community and makes changes accordingly. We recommend!

The user Ape, on the other hand, compares the game to Battlerite and calls it a “must play” for all fans of arena games (via Steam).

What are the critics saying? There is currently criticism for the very long rounds, balance problems, especially with regard to crowd control, and the fact that the game is too closely based on WoW. This has a negative impact on some players.

User Volare writes:

This game is obviously still in the early stages of development, but since it’s so heavily based on WoW Arena, you’d think they’d have the foresight to take WoW’s class balance into account.

However, they don’t seem to have this and the apparent discrepancies in the classes, especially for 1v1, are very apparent from the start. CCs in this game are way too long, it seems obvious they could tweak numbers like that right away, but the fact that they haven’t already tuned in to it tells me they’re either not playing it, or they just aren’t aware of how unbalanced they made the game.

How many users are playing Ring of Titans? At its peak, the new PvP game had 430 simultaneous players. However, the numbers have already gone down significantly. In the last 24 hours, 21 players were online at the same time at the best time. At the time of writing (April 19 at 1:00 p.m.) there were 5 active players.
