Destiny 2 brings extra-tough raid for the brave – is grandmaster mode worth it?

Destiny 2 opened up another Grandmaster mode in a raid on April 19th. The Apprentice’s Oath in the Throne World of Savathûn can now be performed by true PvE experts to be rewarded with great loot. But is it worth the effort, or should you stick with Legend difficulty? We’ll show you.

What is different in Grandmaster mode? Grandmaster difficulty offers modifiers compared to normal mode that will make your life miserable. You have to reckon with this if you want to have it a level harder:

  • Enemies have shields that are hard to break without the right element.
  • In addition, you get to deal with champions that will crush you to dust without the right mods
  • On top of that, your radar is deactivated – so you don’t know if there are opponents in your vicinity
  • Finally, the recommended power level is set at 1580
  • Opponents hold and deal more

While normal mode is like a walk, grandmaster mode is like a trip from hell. But you will be better rewarded for it.

Winners get adept level raid weapons and the armor has better attributes. But is it worth the effort and is the loot as good as Bungie has described it?

A lot of work without an appealing loot

Players had the chance to face the increased difficulty in the raid and yet the opinions are almost all unambiguous. They say the loot of the raid isn’t worth the effort it has to endure.

Rhulk the final boss of the raid is waiting for you

Twitter user Colin (Legionless) describes on Twitter himself how he feels about it and says the following about it:

Real shame about the apprentice’s grandmaster raid oath. Adept weapons do not drop with curated rolls or upgraded perks. Can’t be built either. That only onewhat they have is a few more stat points. […]

The weapons are not worthwhile, because they cannot be learned as a blueprint and then be forged by guardians themselves according to their wishes. You get a weapon with normal perks, an additional perk and the possibility to socket adept mods in them. More is not possible and it is simply not worth the effort.

The keeper Seroius McDougal writes himself on reddit, when he and his squad found out what they would get as loot, they immediately switched to the normal difficulty of the raid. Accordingly, many guardians agree that they prefer to tackle normal mode than grandmasters.

For whom is the raid worthwhile? The raid is worthwhile for collectors who want a good copy of each weapon for their collection. Additionally, title hunters will venture into this hell as well, as the Apprentice Slayer Triumph Seal requires you to complete the raid and associated weekly challenges on Grandmaster.

However, if you just want to play the raid and have a good time, it’s better to go to normal mode. This is less strenuous and gives you even better loot, since you can unlock the raid weapons as blueprints and then build them according to your wishes.

But enough of our recommendation, we want to know if you still ventured into the Grandmaster Raid and survived it successfully. What did you think of the increased difficulty? Was it worth it for you? Let us know!
