Horizon Forbidden West – Is part 3 coming? Game Director says: ‘Yes, that’s the plan’

Sehen wir Aloy möglicherweise irgendwann in einem Hero-Shooter?

There seems to be a future for Aloy and Co.

There seems to be a future for Aloy and Co.

Horizon Forbidden West has been out for several weeks now and many fans are wondering how the franchise will continue. A VR spin-off has already been officially announced, and there are rumors about another – but what about the main series? Will there be a Horizon 3, so is Aloy getting her trilogy? It looks like it, at least if the words of Mathijs de Jonge, the game director of Forbidden West, are to be believed.

Horizon has even more stories to tell

If you’ve already completed Horizon Forbidden West, you know that the title ends with a cliffhanger just like its predecessor – you can find out what it looks like below. In Horizon Zero Dawn some aspects like the forbidden west and the destroyed terraforming system are mentioned, which play a much larger role in the sequel. Mathijs de Jonge goes along in an interview VG247 how he and his team proceeded in a similar way with Forbidden West:

Horizon is about secrets; each of our stories revolved around uncovering mysteries in the old world and the new when the games take place. There are a lot of backstories that we can use for new storylines. And yes, [Forbidden West] ends with another cliffhanger, with which we again prepare the next part.

Not every wish is fulfilled: It sounds as if de Jonge is counting on a third part. However, at the moment we don’t know exactly how successful Forbidden West is so far. And with the example of Sony Bend and Days Gone 2, we can see that Sony does not make the desired project possible for every studio. However, Horizon is already part of the Playstation DNA and seems to play a big role for Sony in the future.

Warning, spoilers for the end of Forbidden West follow from here on out!

So Horizon Forbidden West teases the next part

At the end of Horizon Forbidden West, we learn that Tilda van der Meer is part of the group Far Zenith (almost sounds like the sequel’s subtitle, right?), who fled the apocalypse into space and are now back in their rightful place want to take on earth. This is exactly what Aloy and her clone mother Elisabet Sobeck want to prevent. To this end, they each plan to warn all of America of the danger posed by the organization.

This could be part 3: Far Zenith members live on the Sirius space station. So does Aloy end up in space in the sequel? Why not, because as the next installment wraps up the trilogy, Guerrilla could be planning the craziest things. Either way, we’re going to see a clash of earthlings with Far Zenith, that seems certain.

More Horizon Forbidden West news:

Horizon could become a big franchise

Which also points to a third main part: There is a big leak about Horizon, which says that three more games from the franchise are in the works. One of them is the conclusion of the trilogy, the other two are spin-offs.

Horizon Call of the Mountain for Playstation VR 2 has already been officially announced and could become a showpiece for Sony’s new headset. However, PSVR2 will probably not appear until 2023. The second title should be an online multiplayer game, borrowing from Monster Hunter and Overwatch.

Do you want another Horizon game, or maybe you’d rather have Killzone back?
