Could The Last of Us remake come in 2022?

Sony got off to a strong start in 2022 with exclusive titles for the PlayStation and made many fans happy with games like Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7. But now there is an ebb for big exclusive releases. God of War Ragnarök, a much-anticipated sequel, is set to appear this year, but there is still no specific release date.

Now, however, tweets from a PlayStation Studios visual arts animator tease another big title for this year that’s set to be as good as the new God of War – and that’s fueling speculation.

The tweets are from Robert Morrison, an animator for Playstation Studios Visual Arts. As early as March, he teased that PlayStation would release some “bangers” this year. This has already caused speculation among fans, after all, the only major PlayStation exclusive that has already been announced for a release this year is God of War Ragnarök.

But Morrison made it clear that his project for Sony is a different title that should also raise high expectations: “I’m not working on Ragnarök, but something just as cool.” In another tweet he states that he has been involved in a project for 3-5 years and that he is not allowed to reveal anything about it.

Notes on The Last of Us remake

Unsurprisingly, Morrison doesn’t reveal the title of the project. However, there are quite a few pointers. There have been rumors for a long time about a remake of The Last of Us, which, according to insider Jason Schreier, is said to have originally been worked on by PlayStation Studios Visual Arts before they switched to a support role.

Although the remake has still not been officially announced, it is rumored that it is already nearing completion together with two other TLoU projects. If that’s true and the game is actually released this year, it shouldn’t be long before the announcement.

Of course, despite all the speculation, nothing has been confirmed yet, Morrison could theoretically point to a completely new project that has nothing to do with existing IPs. It is also quite possible that the tweets are not all related to the same project.
