Digimon Survive was announced in 2018 and is still a long time coming. Now those responsible behind the Pokémon alternative are finally announcing a release date. That’s tough because this time there’s almost a worldwide simultaneous release. This hasn’t been the case with most Digimon games so far. In any case, you don’t have to wait too long anymore, it’s still this summer.

When is Digimon Survive coming? On July 29, 2022 Digimon Survive will be released for PS4, Xbox One and the Switch. The release date applies expressly to Europe and the USA.

So far, it has often been the case with Digimon games that the titles initially only appear in Japan. If anything, a global release tended to come later. But that’s not supposed to be the case this time, or rather the difference is only one day since it’s released in Japan on July 28th.

What is Digimon anyway? Digimon are, of course, very roughly and greatly simplified, similar to the big competition, Pokémon. Except that these are virtual beings that live in a digital world called Cyberspace Eden, which humans can also enter. There is an anime series, movies, manga, trading card game and more.

What kind of game will Digimon Survive? You can expect a pretty colorful mix, because a wide variety of genres come together here. While the battles are structured as a turn-based tactical RPG à la XCOM, we can also explore a game world from the first person perspective. This includes various conversations with NPCs that are stylistically reminiscent of visual novels.

This is what Digimon Survive is all about: The story of the RPG begins in a summer camp and revolves around the main character Takuma. Along with Aoi and Minoru, Takuma visits a shrine and encounters the pink Digimon Koromon. Unsurprisingly, other monsters attack and Takuma and his friends are transported into a mysterious world where they must fight to survive.
