God of War 2 Ragnarök: Devs deliver update “We are perfectionists”
God of War 2: Ragnarok is being developed by perfectionists, ex-game director Cory Barlog explains in a new statement.
God of War 2: Ragnarok is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games of the year. Fans are eagerly awaiting a new sign of life. Every time the creators speak up, the gaming world feels like it’s holding its breath. This is also the case in this case: There is a new, short statement in which we are put off: Something very cool is coming our way. But it can only be shown when it is finished. This is due to the perfectionism of everyone involved, which of course sounds very promising and drives expectations even higher.
God of War 2: Ragnarok Statmement further builds the anticipation
Why isn’t there anything? If you’re one of those people wondering why Sony Santa Monica is releasing so little news about God of War 2, here’s something for you. In a video statement celebrating the four-year anniversary, Cory Barlog (who was Game Director for God of War) explains why little new info is released or gameplay shown.
That’s because we’re all focused and working hard at it. We are perfectionists. All add the final touch to the graphics […] There is so much right now that I would really like to share with you. But it’s just not ready to be shown just yet.
However, Cory Barlog guarantees that it will be shown immediately when the time comes. Nobody wants to hold anything back. He urges fans to be patient a little longer and promises that “something cool” is coming our way.

Of course, that sounds promising: The emphasis on perfectionism gives hope that the end result, in the form of God of War 2 Ragnarok, will look and play that way. Of course, what has been shown so far also goes in the same direction. Here you can watch the big gameplay reveal again:

Release 2022 is apparently: If you’re like me, when you first watched Cory Barlog’s video, you probably held your breath pretty much the whole time, worrying about whether or not there’d be a pushback to 2023. But that doesn’t seem to be the case, as animation director Bruno Velazquez confirms again on Twitter:

What does Cory Barlog do? Despite making that statement here, Cory Barlog no longer serves as game director on God of War 2. Instead, he is rumored to be working on a still secret PS5 game that could be called Envelope and will be a mix of Hellblade and Prey – if the leaks are correct.
What do you say about the perfectionism statement and when do you think a release of God of War 2 is realistic?
