Pokemon GO brings apology event for broken Owei spectacle, but not for all

Pokemon GO brings apology event for broken Owei spectacle, but not for all

In Pokémon GO, an event recently didn’t go according to plan. The developers apologize for this and bring a replacement event, but not for all trainers.

What kind of event is it? On April 16, Pokémon GO launched a limited research event featuring Owei. In the wild, the Egg Pokémon spawned much more frequently and you could evolve it into Alolan Kokowei during the event. In addition, Alolan Kokowei then learned the powerful attack Draco Meteor. To top off the event, participants received double XP for catching Pokémon.

However, the event did not initially go according to plan. Early players had trouble finding Shiny Owei. And now Niantic is making up for that for those players.

New Owei event for players in the early time zones

What does Niantic say? Niantic support reported on Twitter on April 21 what the replacement event will look like. You write:

Trainers, we are launching a Reparation Event as a Timed Research for the nine earliest time zones (GMT +14 – GMT +5) on April 30th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm local time, in which there will be the intended chances for encounters with Shiny Owei will give.

During the Redemption Event there will be a Timed Research that will reward you with 3 Owei encounters. You can also encounter Crypto-Owei in battles with Team GO Rocket.

More details will be available soon on our official channels. We apologize for the issues with the original event and thank you for your patience.

Which time zones does this apply to? If Niantic is very precise, then Germany will not be included. On Twitter, users showed on a map which areas are eligible for GMT +14 to GMT +5. In the tweet are the areas inside the red line intended for the redemption event:

So Germany would not be affected. However, there is hope that the affected areas will be expanded. Some people wrote on Twitter that Niantic should add more regions.

“After the early time zones reported that the chances of the Shiny were not increased, many trainers lost interest in the event and did not play it. Without knowing that the chances were then increased in their time zone,” writes Eheufaucan Twitter.

On too reddit players write that they would like the redemption event to take place all over the world. The reasoning is the same: you heard from early players that the shiny chances were not increased and therefore skipped the event.

With so many players in the community complaining about it, chances are Niantic will really expand the event. But that can only be said with certainty when Niantic officially announces it.
