A new Assassin’s Creed was recently leaked, which appears to be the next installment in the long-running franchise. Assassin’s Creed Nexus, as it is rumored to be titled, brings back many of the series’ main characters. The special feature: It is a VR game. In fact, Ubisoft announced back in 2020 that it was working on a VR title in the Assassin’s Creed universe.

Meta Exclusive: The production of Assassin’s Creed Nexus is apparently funded by Meta; accordingly, the game will be exclusive or at least time-exclusive for Oculus headsets like the Oculus Quest 2. A later release, for example for Playstation VR 2, cannot be completely ruled out at this point in time.

Hidden Blade and Leap of Faith in VR

The leak comes from well-known insider Tom Henderson and has been confirmed by other sources. A surprising number of details are already known about Assassin’s Creed Nexus:

The control: As is usual with many VR games, you have the choice of moving using the analog stick or teleportation. If you choose the latter method, you must be careful not to teleport too close to an enemy, as this will increase the volume displayed by the game and you will be spotted. Stealth also plays a major role in virtual reality.

The well-known parkour passages run automatically as long as you keep a button pressed. The jumps from high points, after which the assassins regularly land in haystacks, should feel particularly intense.

fights: You attack your opponents with well-known weapons such as swords, crossbows or throwing knives. Hitting, blocking and throwing is done via movement control. The hidden blade also returns, which you activate with the push of a button and then ram it into a soldier’s neck with a flick of the wrist.

Missions: Assassin’s Creed Nexus is divided into 16 missions that play linearly – so there is no open world. The levels apparently extend over a long period of time, since we are allowed to slip on the robes of various main characters in the series. The following names are mentioned in the leak:

  • Ezio
  • Cassandra
  • Connor
  • Haytham

When will Assassin’s Creed Nexus be released? Ubisoft still recruiting for Assassin’s Creed VR; the game is still in the middle of production. However, according to the leak, the title should be completed in the next twelve months. So a 2023 release sounds realistic.

More news about the franchise:

These Assassin’s Creed titles are also in development

The concept with the missions in different eras is reminiscent of Assassin’s Creed Infinity, in which we will also take on different characters. Ubisoft’s big live service project is far from finished and could not appear until 2024.

This assumption is all the more obvious since a game starring Basim, whom we know from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, will appear in 2023. It was supposed to be a DLC that eventually turned into a big project. Until the game is released, we will probably get some more DLCs for Valhalla.
