Twitch bans MMO streamers: "The problem with women is that nobody ever punches them"

Twitch has banned MMO streamer Quintin “Quin69” Crawford for two weeks. The reason for this is a statement that is seen as “hateful towards women”. Quin69 is probably the most important streamer of Path of Exile on the streaming platform, but has always had problems with the ban rules.

Who is Quin69?

  • Quin69 is the biggest streamer of Path of Exile and an MMO junkie in general. The New Zealander also maintains a unique relationship with his community, people love and hate each other with devotion. He once had a special idea how his viewers could “torture” him.
  • Lately he’s been playing League of Legends: Which is mentally nagging at him, like pretty much everyone who plays LoL.
  • Even though Quin69 is so successful, he still has problems with the rules of Twitch: In January 2022 he got himself banned for saying that women ask for sexual harassment with their clothes. Shortly thereafter, he was banned for showing NSFW content during a media share stream.

What was he banned for now? Quin69 has been banned for 14 days for “hateful behavior toward women.”

He shared the clip on Twitter that got him banned on Twitch. The clip has since been deleted, but there are recordings of it. He says in the clip:

The problem with women is that “no one hits them in the face.”

Quin69 says this is a reference to another scene of his. There he had an argument at a gas station between two men, commenting with:

This is a classic case of “This guy didn’t get punched in the face, OK. He needs a bit of negative conditioning so he can learn from the experience.

This is behind it: There’s a standup number by comedian “Bill Burr” in which he argues that women enjoy “fool’s liberty” because it’s socially forbidden to hit them. Therefore, they could scratch a man’s car themselves and proudly stand by their work, knowing that nothing will happen. While men who went too far always had to expect someone to smack them in the face.

Burr explains that he always learned lessons from “the beating he took” and adjusted his behavior. He urges women to hit each other to correct their behavior.

It’s a controversial number, with Burr repeatedly hinting at how sensitive it is and qualifying his statements (via YouTube). Burr plays on the outraged reaction of his audience, it’s one of his trademarks.

Apparently Quin69 also saw this comedy number and quoted it, but it went horribly wrong for him.

“I’m not a crazy misogynist, just make a two-part hypothesis!”

Quin69 says: He feels misunderstood. He admits that asking people to hit women looks really bad out of context.

It should be clear from the context what he meant. He’s not a lunatic misogynist, but here he puts forward a two-part hypothesis as to why women tend to turn into “demonic Karens,” horrid human beings:

It wasn’t meant to be sexist. It was intended as a meme, but also kind of true. Hopefully that clears that up now: I don’t hate women!

He therefore believes that, seen from the “context”, his statement is clearly to be understood as a joke.

User says: Looks even worse with context

How do others see it? Overall, the behavior of Quin69 makes you shake your head. A user on reddit says: Quin is one of the few streamers where it gets even worse when you know the context of statements.

Another adds: Quin69 just doesn’t understand Twitch. With or without context the statement was harmful to him.

However, another user says kindly that Quin69 should please try not to be constantly banned from Twitch. He’s looking for a streamer to follow daily.
