Elden Ring: Ingenious mod to solve the biggest co-op problems – “should have been like this from the start”

Elden Ring: Ingenious mod to solve the biggest co-op problems - "should have been like this from the start"

Since the release of Elden Ring, numerous players have complained about problems in co-op. Unfortunately, the previous updates have not made any progress either. Now modder LukeYui wants to solve the problem himself and the players are enthusiastic.

What is the problem in multiplayer? There are many small and large things that mix together to create an often annoying gaming experience:

  • The most annoying thing is the constant network errors and disconnections that make life difficult for many players in Elden Ring PvP and co-op across all platforms. The exact causes of this are not known, but players blame overburdened servers and bad netcode.
  • Otherwise, the multiplayer doesn’t necessarily suffer from bugs or glitches, but much more from its missing features and its clumsiness, which seem very old-fashioned and outdated for many players. There is no direct matchmaking function, the game can only be played in co-op in limited areas.
  • There is a limit to this, so you can only go with a maximum of 2 co-op partners. Invaders have only one slot in PvP, so they automatically face at least 2 opponents and are often outnumbered 1 to 3.
  • There are many other diseases that are more or less serious depending on the type of player. Most agree, however, that Elden Ring’s multiplayer has a few things that developer FromSoftware needs to fix or improve.

But the modder LukeYui doesn’t want to wait that long and quickly tinkers with a huge multiplayer modification for the Elden Ring, which above all expands the co-op mode with a number of quality-of-life features. Even the annoying network errors could be a thing of the past.

First of all, the note: The mod is currently in progress and not publicly accessible. So unfortunately you can’t start right away. LukeYui is constantly working on improvements for this.

When should the mod be made public? That’s not clear yet. As soon as a release is known, we will inform you about it. As usual, only PC players will benefit from this, as mods are not created for consoles. But we think that this mod is still worth a look for every fan:

Mod brings “limitless” co-op possibilities, makes playing together much easier

What exactly does the mod contain? The list of features added to Elden Ring’s multiplayer is quite extensive. The video shows some of them:

  • Players can invite co-op partners anywhere. You can actually travel across the land between the two countries with other players without any major restrictions. Even fast travel is possible via voting.
  • Map markers are also synchronized by the mod.
  • You can also see how the modder explores the Round Table Fortress with a friend. Actually a multiplayer free area.
  • Even seal prisons can be completed together. For example, you can get help from the bloodhound or the annoying knights if you have difficulties.

In addition, there are many other small things that can significantly enhance the overall experience. If you die in regular co-op mode, you will be immediately separated from your companions and you will have to reconnect or find other players.

Thanks to the modification, such a player death is no longer synonymous with a disconnection. Instead, upon dying, players are put into a spectator mode until the partner dies or the fight is won.

Otherwise you can still see some PvE scenes from the midgame of Elden Ring. The scaling of the opponents works in the same way as it does in normal multiplayer, but there is one big difference: instead of three, you can now be four.

Here you can see the current enemy scaling of the last mod version:

  • 2 players = 25% more health for opponents
  • 3 players = 50% more health for opponents
  • 4 players = 75% more health for enemies

But what do the players actually think of the modification?

Mod could prevent network errors, but that also depends on you

How is this supposed to work? The modification uses a peer2peer system for the connection. So the connection quality depends on the host in whose world you are playing.

So you should have a stable connection, provided your line is good enough. But that should definitely run better than the current server connections.

What about PvP? In the current version of the mod there is no PvP system yet. Since you are no longer on the regular servers, PvP in combination with this mod is probably not possible.

But that doesn’t seem to bother many co-op players at all. You just want to travel around the game world with friends in peace.

Everything you need to know about multiplayer in Elden Ring

Extensive co-op mod fulfills the wildest dreams of many players

What the players say about the mod: The comments are consistently enthusiastic. In addition to the heaped praise for the modder’s good work, people especially admire how smoothly the whole thing works.

It almost looks to many as if the features were built in by the developers themselves, apart from the fact that unfortunately they are not known for such overhauls of core features.

Here some comments:

  • Nathan Schubert: “That looks fantastic! My biggest problem with Elden Ring is the lousy co-op mode. That looks like a huge improvement!”
  • TheXPGamers: “This is stunning. Basically what I wanted from the Elden Ring from the start.”
  • asmodeus: “I’m really looking forward to it – my husband and I always play Souls games in co-op[…] and when Elden Ring came out, we were both disappointed.”
  • Nicolas Heath: “You have my vote for mod of the decade. Me and my friend would die for a simple network stabilization patch but 1.04 it’s still terrible we get disconnected every 2 minutes. […] Can not Hardly Wait!!! Keep it up!”
  • GuideFire: “The main reason I haven’t bought the Elden Ring yet is that I wanted a true co-op experience. I’m looking forward to it!”

So the euphoria is great and PC gamers can hardly wait to get started right away. But what do you think of it? Do the problems in multiplayer bother you as much as many others? Could the mod be a solution for you?
