PS Plus Premium subscribers can apparently look forward to a lot of free trial versions in the future.

end of June Sony is expanding its PS Plus range with additional options, including a “Premium” version, which, in addition to online games, also allows access to various PS1 and PS2 titles, as well as free trial versions of AAA games.

And the offer of these free trial versions for premium subscribers could be much more extensive than initially assumed. Because like the side Gamedeveloper.com from developer circles, Sony will in future make such trial versions mandatory for all games that cost over $34 (33 euros) or more in the store. The studios have already been informed about this via Sony’s developer portal.

At least two hours of gameplay

Sony’s specification goes even further and stipulates a minimum playing time of two hours for the free preview versions. A good time to get an extensive and comprehensive picture of certain titles. Such an offer would be a good thing for all premium subscribers, precisely because these trial versions are to be made available for at least 12 months.

The other side of the coin: For smaller studios in particular, such an obligatory play version could also mean a considerable amount of extra work because it has to be planned for during development. In the case of shorter games above the 33 euro limit, a large part of the playing time might also be available free of charge. However, it is still completely unclear whether it has to be a separate demo, or whether in future a title can simply be downloaded completely and then simply “breaks off” after a two-hour trial period.

Of course, AAA games like the next God of War would also fall into the default criteria.

In addition to these trial versions, Sony is also open to classic demos, according to Gamedeveloper.com, but it should be decided on a case-by-case basis whether these are offered for specific titles or not.

A notice: Even if the article from the given source sounds pretty concrete, Sony has not officially confirmed the premium trial versions for all games over 33 euros.

PS Plus revolution official: All information about the new subscription service for PS4/PS5 (exclusive)

What a long time under the Codenamed “Spartacus” haunted by the rumor mill, Sony made it official in March 2022: PS Plus will be divided into 3 offer options in the future, which cost different amounts and accordingly give you different numbers of advantages.

PS Plus Essential offers the usual bonuses and features, while PS Plus Extra gives access to 400 PS4 and PS5 titles for €5 more per month. Anyone who puts an additional 8 euros on the table has PS Plus Premium access to various PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP titles, as well as cloud streaming. And maybe a whole bunch of free trials too.

What do you think of this rumor: Would you be happy about these two-hour trial versions?
