Pokémon GO brings big mega update - that's what the first testers say

Mega Evolutions and Raids in Pokémon GO are getting a major overhaul. The first players are already using the new system and are reporting on the changes.

What is this update? The Mega Evolutions will be reworked. Select Pokémon in the game can evolve like this, costing Mega Energy. This makes them really strong and gives bonuses to other Pokémon. The community has been dissatisfied with the system for a long time, and after many leaks, Niantic confirmed that the mega developments are being improved.

The new system is already active in Australia and New Zealand. We show you what the trainers say about it and how it works.

This is how the new Mega Evolutions work

That is known: On reddit, user hurryupthecakes reports on his experiences with the latest mega changes, which he has already been able to test as a player from Australia/New Zealand.

– The initial Mega Evolution cost for a species that you haven’t already Mega Evolution is 200 (100 for Tauboss/Bibor)

– Standard level cost is 40 (20 for Tauboss and Beaver), same as current cost. The reduced costs for the higher levels are not yet available. Datamining shows them going down to 20 (10).

– Once you’ve Mega Evolved a species at least once, a Mega icon will appear on the Pokemon’s side, which will take you to the Mega Summary. There you can then see exactly how many developments you still need to level up and what cooldown you are currently in

– You can only advance in the Mega Level once per day per Pokémon species. After the first time, a “Daily Limit Reached” message will appear on the Mega Summary page. You can still carry out further mega developments on the day, but then you will not increase in the mega level

– The cost of the Mega Evolutions steadily decreases while on cooldown. My Beaver that got a Mega Evolution yesterday had a reduced cost 19/20. My deaf boss with 4 days and 6 hours left has a cost of 12/20. A friend’s Charizard is anywhere from 2 to 3 days and costs 9/40. These points suggest that on cooldown, the cost goes from max to 0.

– If you Mega Evolve daily for the maximum energy cost, then you need 6×40 + 23×20 energy to reach the max level. (700 energy total, 350 for Beaver and Tauboss)

How does it work in raids? user ThisNico (via reddit.com) adds: “If you want to Mega Evolve in a battle’s setup screen (like in a raid lobby or in team select against a Rocket leader), you must already have the Pokemon on your team. Once that is done, there is a Mega icon that you can press to enter the Mega Evolutions menu.”

ThisNico also indicates a problem. This is because if you already have an active Mega Evolution, you cannot access the Mega Evolution screen from a battle setup. An error message then appears. “Changing that would be an important quality-of-life change that I hope Niantic is aware of,” the trainer explains.

Keep in mind that the system is currently being tested and is not yet available worldwide.

When is the new mega update coming? Niantic explains in the blog post that it will be available “soon” for players around the world. However, there is no specific date yet.
