Elden Ring in VR: Mod First Gameplay Video Looks Awesome, But I Have So Many Questions!

What will the virtual reality journey through the intermediate country look like?

What will the virtual reality journey through the intermediate country look like?

Since the release of Elden Ring in March, we’ve been stomping and cantering through the inland, exploring every millimeter, searching for secrets, and enjoying great vistas. But how about when the immersion is raised to a whole new level because we get the feeling of being in the mysterious world ourselves? A well-known modder wants to make this possible.

VR Mod presents itself in the video

It’s all about this: As far as Elden Ring goes, we’ve seen a lot: Crazy challenges like the butt-splash run, canceled content, secrets revealed. The VR mod LukeRoss is working on is something else entirely. The modder is known for such projects and has already developed VR implementations for Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 5, for example.

This can be seen in the video: In a first almost two-minute video we get a small impression of what it could be like to experience the action RPG in virtual reality. We see the path from the point where we wake up to the Chapel of Anticipation where we are ambushed by the Transplanted Scion. The fight is over pretty quickly. This may sound familiar to some of you.

This looks great: The video gives me a glimpse of how cool it could be to explore the inland in VR. This becomes clear when the first item is collected and it is possible to take a close look at the corpse of the fingermaiden where we find it. I could imagine that at some points in the game it could even get a little scary to explore everything so directly.

I’m just imagining turning a corner in a dark hallway in Villa Vulkan and suddenly being attacked by a nasty screaming opponent whose hideous face I look straight into.

The big question mark

I think the exploration is awesome, but when it comes to the combat I have so many questions. What about the dodge role that – literally – plays such an important role? Do I have to throw up?

But even if another solution is found for this, where I don’t get the feeling of overturning, one thing is clear: the fights in Elden Ring require super fast reactions, movements – and overview. It’s all about precision. The short fight interlude in the video is not enough to judge how well or badly this works. However, I notice that I can hardly see “my own” weapon.

It remains exciting: I’m very curious how LukeRoss will implement the fights in his mod and how playable they will be. At the moment I still have the impression that we could use a spit bucket and chocolate to counteract the frustration, but I’m curious to see what the modder delivers, because a VR trip to the intermediate country would be pretty cool.

Now you are asked: Do you think a VR version of Elden Ring is conceivable and how do you think the fights should be implemented in order to work?
