Star Wars MMORPG brings weapon changes players have been waiting for for many years

SWTOR weapon designer

The MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic got a new update on April 27th, which included a small but important change. Players can now change the design of their weapon without affecting its stats. This has long been desired in the community.

What can be done with the weapons now? The new patch 7.0.2 has brought the weapons to the clothing designer. There you can now customize the look of the weapon as you like:

  • You must first equip a weapon. This then determines the values that your character gets.
  • Then you switch to the clothing designer. There you can create another weapon and use the skin of this one.
  • However, this weapon must belong to the same family (pistol, rifle, lightsaber, etc.) and you must have this weapon in your inventory.

There are several memory slots in the game where you can store items. This is useful, for example, if you have saved different ways of playing the loadouts and you want your tank to look different than the damage dealer.

However, all items from the clothing designer still occupy slots in your inventory. In addition, changing the outfit costs a few credits.

This is what the ingame weapon designer looks like.

Change has been longingly desired for 7 years, but the implementation is not perfect

How long have players been waiting for this change? Very long. The Clothing Designer was introduced with Patch 3.2 – Rise of the Emperor – in April 2015. But this option was not previously available for weapons. However, you could customize a weapon’s mods if you really wanted to keep the skin.

That has now changed, almost 7 years later.

What are the players saying? Basically, the change to the clothing designer is well received by the players. Many are happy that they can now easily change the skin of their weapon.

But there is also criticism:

  • There appears to be an issue when you switch between a two-handed weapon combat style and a two-handed weapon combat style. The clothing designer is currently unable to cope with this and you have to manually adjust the appearance again.
  • If you subsequently want to change the crystal and thus the color of the lightsaber, you must first remove the weapon from the designer, adjust it and then pay credits again to equip it.
  • The occupancy of the many inventory slots continues to bother many players. They’d rather have a system like Guild Wars 2’s wardrobe, where a skin is unlocked once and can then be used as many times as you like.

Nevertheless, many see the adjustment positively, especially after the big criticism of the new expansion Legacy of the Sith.

What else is in the update? Patch 7.0.2 mainly brought many small adjustments:

  • The descriptions, some companion effects, tooltips and various spelling mistakes have been revised.
  • All enemies from four different Flashpoints have had their health and damage reduced. There were also other balance adjustments to the Flashpoints.

Also, a Double XP event has been prepared, which will run from May 3rd at 2:00 p.m. to May 10th at 2:00 p.m. So it’s a good time to get back into SWTOR as a new player or returning player.

What do you think of the adjustments to SWTOR? Is this small change a reason for you to return to the MMORPG? Or did Legacy of the Sith disappoint you too much?
