Lost Ark: As an artilleryman you fight with fire shots and bombs - this is how you play it properly

If you want to carry a large gun with you in Lost Ark and like strong AoE attacks, choose the right class with the artilleryman. MeinMMO author Anny Bader took a closer look at it and explains what is important.

The artilleryman is one of four subclasses of the gunner. It may be slow moving, but it deals a lot of burst damage by firing huge bullets or blowing up enemies with grenades.

With two different shields, you protect yourself as an artilleryman, so you can withstand a lot of damage. In addition, you can sit in a tower to avoid being knocked over and be even more resilient.

One problem with the Artilleryman is that the damage from two strong attacks is delayed. You fire them and the enemy is only hit a few seconds later, so they may have moved in time. Therefore, as an artilleryman, it pays to know the mechanics of bosses in detail.

On the tier list of MeinMMO, the artilleryman is in the A area both in PvE and in low rank PvP. It is suitable for PvE and for low rank PvP: in high rank PvP, however, it is less usable and slips into the C tier.

This is how the artilleryman plays

This is the artilleryman’s special ability: In your identity panel at the bottom center of the screen, you gather energy in combat. It is divided into three stages. If the firepower meter is full, you can place your artilleryman in a turret and you are in spear fire mode.

This gives you access to four additional attacks: a laser, a bomb, a shield and a machine gun. In addition, you cannot move in the tower, but you cannot be knocked over or knocked back either.

Energy Field: Generate a shield that absorbs up to 15% of your HP for 4 seconds.

Flamethrower: Hold to deal fire damage over 4 seconds.

Frost Shell: Bullet that slows enemies by 60% for 4 seconds.

Gatling Rifle: Spin towards the cursor while firing a machine gun.

Summon Turret: Summon a turret that attacks enemies for 10 seconds.

Gravity Blast: Create a field that pulls enemies in, then explodes to knock them back and deal damage.

Howitzer: Explosive cannon that throws enemies into the air.

Air Attack: Shoot in the air. The bullets hit random opponents.

Multi Missile Launcher: Shoot 5 missiles in random directions.

Napalm Shot: A grenade that explodes and knocks enemies into the air. The ground then burns where it hit.

Plasma Storm: Create a field that moves toward enemies, damaging them for 5 seconds.

Rocket Bombing: Mark a spot on the ground. After 4 seconds, a rocket will come flying and destroy everything within 8 meters.

Shotgun: Shoot with a shotgun.

Swing: Swing your launcher and stun enemies.

Jump Bombardment: Jump up and bombard enemies below you.

Reinforced Bullet: Fire a large bullet.

Forward Spearfire: Fire a fast cannon.

The artilleryman in the leveling process

It is important when distributing the points that you never have to bring the skill levels higher than level 10. Skill level 4 is required for the first tripod, skill level 7 for the second, and skill level 10 for the third.

Level 11: First you put 4 points on Reinforced Bullet to apply a debuff to the opponent through the Tripod Armor Destruction.

Up to level 15: 20 points on Gatling rifle.

Up to level 19: 20 points on flamethrower

Up to level 25: For as much AoE damage as possible, you now put 4 points on napalm shot, 20 on air attack and another 4 on multi-rocket launcher.

Up to level 30: Now brings air attack to the highest level.

Level 34: Now you max out your multi rocket launcher. Take the points from Reinforced Bullet and Napalm Shot for this. You also put 4 points on summon turret.

Up to level 41: 20 points on Gravity Blast and 48 points on Rocket Bombardment.

Up to level 50: Lastly, maximize your Gravity Blast and Flamethrower.

The best builds in endgame

In the endgame, as with most other classes, you choose between two class engravings. Experienced players usually rely on the Firepower Boost engraving and advise against Boosted Barrage.

Class Engraving A: Firepower Boost

What does the engraving do? With the class engraving you focus on the firepower display. Your crit rate increases with each level of the display. At level 1 of the class engraving, you start with a 15% higher crit chance and can increase this by 5% with each level of identity gauge. Then you have 25% more crit.

In addition, you take 20% less damage. However, this number stays the same no matter how high you get the class engraving and identity indicator.

Which engravings do I use? Since your attacks don’t have a bonus as a frontal or ambush attack, you can use the Master of Strike combat engrave. It increases your attack damage if you don’t attack from the front or back.

To further increase your crit, you can use Adrenaline and later Daring Blunt Weapon. The latter, however, only if your crit rate is already over 70%.

Barricade is also worthwhile as an artilleryman. Engraving increases your damage when shielded.

You can read exactly how the engraving works in our guide.

Which trading cards are important? To further increase your crit rate, you should start with the Howling Rocks card set. It consists of Armel, Seria, Solas, King Thirain, Kharmine and Delain Armel.

The Light of Redemption set is optimal, but it consists of rare cards. So it will be expensive later, but worth it. The set consists of Shandi, Azena and Innana, Nineveh, Wei, Balthorr and Thirain. For a 6-piece 30-piece Awakening, the cards give you 8% more Holy damage and convert all your damage to Holy damage.

What skills do I use?

Use Missile Volley for Awakening. This is your ultimate, so to speak.

What is the rotation like?

  • First you use energy field to be protected during your rotation.
  • You now do the most damage with rocket bombardment and air attack.
  • Napalm shot, multi-missile launcher, flamethrower and forward barrage now follow as fillers.
  • Once your firepower meter is filled, you go into barrage mode and use invincibility and energy cannon.
  • Now your cooldowns should be over and the rotation can start again.

Class Engraving B: Reinforced Barrage

What does the engraving do? Reinforced barrage buffs your identity. As soon as you go into the tower, you do more damage.

Engraving is slightly weaker than Firepower Boost and much more stat and gear dependent. Currently there is hardly anyone who uses this class engraving. As soon as there is a suitable build, you can read about it here.

What do you say to the artilleryman? What item level have you already brought him to? Which class engraving did you choose? Would you also advise against Reinforced Barrage, or do you see it differently? Write it to us in the comments here on MeinMMO!
