New Steam MMORPG launches open alpha, relies on teamwork and high difficulty

The MMORPG Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore has started the Open Alpha on Steam. The game is aimed at hardcore gamers who like to have more challenge and teamwork in their games.

This is Ethyral: The new MMORPG Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore puts you in the dangerous world of Irmesa. You start on a deserted island and have to slowly work your way through the areas to arrive on the continent.

The areas are divided into different biomes, such as tundra, deserts, swamps, etc., in which you can complete various quests.

The sticking point of Ethyral is the high level of difficulty of the game. The developers expressly warn that their MMORPG is mainly aimed at hardcore players who have no problem with suffering painful losses after death.

Dying in-game results in the loss of EXP and random items, which you can pick up if someone else hasn’t already. The risk is high, but the goal is to increase the feeling of success, according to the developers.

There is also a great focus on teamwork and interaction with others. During the instances, players must stick together to be successful. And here, too, death has consequences:

  • When a player dies, their EXP loss will be shared across the whole party.
  • At the end of the dungeon, if the party is successful and can revive the player, the players will get back some of that lost EXP.

In PvE, Ethyrial wants to offer many boss fights within the dungeons and a coliseum arena, against which you can either compete alone or with a group. PvP fans, on the other hand, can compete against each other in different arenas and fight for the top spots on the ladder.

Which payment system does Ethyral use? Access to the open alpha is free. After the release, the developers want to introduce a subscription model like WoW or FFXIV. There will also be a shop, but it shouldn’t contain any EXP boosts or similar gameplay aids.

Here’s how to get involved in the Alpha: The Ethyrian Alpha is open to everyone, so all you have to do to participate is register to the game’s Steam page and click on the green “Request Access” button at the bottom.

Then you can download the game, install it and start playing right away. The alpha will last a full month. So you have plenty of time to look around the game and try out different features.
