Halo developers are supposedly working on a new part and that makes me sigh softly

The Master Chief has been in action in Infinite for almost half a year.

Almost half a year after the official release, the second season of Halo Infinite starts this week and finally provides the shooter with long-awaited new content for the Free2Play multiplayer mode. So while there is a ray of light on the horizon in this regard, developer 343 Industries is reportedly already working on a new Halo part behind the scenes.

Where did the rumor come from? From well-connected Windows Central journalist Jez Corden, who is well connected in the industry Xbox Two Podcast talked about the possible new Halo. While he’s not “100% sure,” he’s “quite 343 is working on a new Halo that isn’t Halo Infinite,” Corden said.

He had said something similar about a year ago. At the time, however, Corden was even more specific and said that the additional Halo project was a “spinoff”.

Halo Infinite-Studio 343 is said to be secretly working on a Halo spinoff

Although it is of course a rumor that has not yet been confirmed by Microsoft, it would not be surprising if 343 Industries were already at least partially dedicated to a new game behind closed doors – whether it is a new part or a spinoff is an open question.

Tobi has let Halo Infinite gather dust more and more over the last few months, the motivation was no longer really there in multiplayer. Despite “only” two new maps, he hopes for a new boost from Season 2 – and is excited to see what the future of Halo will bring.

Infinite is far from finished

Nevertheless, this rumor leaves me with a stale aftertaste and even makes me sigh a little. Because if 343 Industries had completely delivered to Halo Infinite so far, I could understand that people are also thinking about the future. However, there is still a lot to do with Infinite.

Because the multiplayer, for example, suffers massively from too little content, especially with the maps, even Season 2 will only help to a limited extent. Also, I and a number of others are still waiting for the co-op campaign and the forge mode, both of which will be completed at a later date. And because of its orientation, the campaign is also really great for expansions in the form of DLCs, about which there have already been a few rumors. So Infinite is far from finished.

By the way, here’s the trailer for the Season 2 content:

Halo Infinite was planned as a live service platform for many years – hence the name – concentrating on a new game would, in my opinion, counteract that and, above all, cause concern for the future of Infinite.

More on Halo Infinite:

With all of this, of course, I know that it has been a rumor so far and that Halo Infinite will be with us for a long time, even apart from these rumours. Also, it’s more the norm than the exception for big studios to work on multiple projects at the same time. And: As a fan of the series, I would of course also be happy about a new part/spinoff. Nevertheless: For Infinite the current shift – even if only from a part of the studio – would not be a good sign. Maybe we’ll find out in June at the Microsoft & Bethesda Games Showcasewhether there is anything to it.
