NRW bike tour: the route runs along the Erft, Wurm and Rur

Meal.
The NRW Cycle Tour 2022 will take place from Thursday to Sunday, July 7th to 10th. WestLotto, NRW Foundation and WDR 4 invite you to this bike tour.

Participants – either as permanent guests for the entire tour or individual days – can do sports and experience charming natural landscapes and beautiful places along the route. At all stage destinations, WDR 4 ensures the end of the day with live concerts (admission free). Important: The current hygiene regulations of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia apply to the NRW cycle tour.

Those are the stages

  • The NRW cycle tour 2022 starts from the Brückenkopf Park in Jülich. After a break at Paffendorf Castle, the tour continues along the Erft to the first stage destination in Mönchengladbach, Rheydt market square.
  • The second stage leads in parts along the Wurm. There will be a break in Geilenkirchen and Alsdorf before heading to the Aachener Markt stage destination.
  • On the third day it will be European, then the two neighboring countries Netherlands and Belgium will be visited with a stopover at the border triangle, the highest point in the Netherlands. The course around Aachen continues via Kornelimünster to Stolberg for a break on Kaiserplatz.
  • After a total of around 245 kilometers, the tour returns to the starting point in Jülich on Sunday, July 10th, with a stop at the Düren bathing lake and a route along the Rur.

Between 52 and 75 kilometers are covered in each stage. The routes are fully signposted and accompanied by the police. Tour scouts from the General German Bicycle Club keep the entourage together and provide assistance if necessary. The German Red Cross provides medical care en route.

NRW foundation projects

There are many nature conservation and cultural institutions in the region that are supported by the NRW Foundation. These include, for example, Dyck Castle in Jüchen, the Freyenter Forest nature reserve on the border with Belgium, a renovated water tower in Übach-Palenberg, the restored Marian shrine in Aachen Cathedral, the Zinkhütter Hof Museum in Stolberg and the Paper Museum in Düren. The NRW Foundation receives most of its funding from income from WestLotto.

The number of permanent guests and day participants is limited. Every participant in the NRW Cycle Tour 2022 must therefore register.
