gamescom 2022: The Indie Arena Booth returns and is waiting for your visit
gamescom 2022 will not only take place in Cologne again, but also wants to become greener.
gamescom will take place again on site in 2022. For the last two years, the event could only take place online and without public traffic, for well-known reasons. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic is still not over, but at least the organizers are confident that gamescom can still be staged in a reasonably responsible manner in the summer. This means, among other things, that the Indie Area including the Indie Arena Booth can finally be visited again in person and on site.
The hard facts: gamescom 2022 will take place again on site in Cologne. The whole thing should take place with the help of a hybrid concept, in which a lot happens online as well. So if you can’t or don’t want to be there, you still get a lot on offer. Like, for example, the opening show gamescom Opening Night Live, which is taking place again. gamescom will take place in the following period:
Webedia is a member of the game association, which also organizes gamescom. Webedia and thus also GamePro.de are accompanying gamescom 2022 as media partners.
Indie Area back: Of course, when gamescom comes back, that means that the Indie Area will be there again. As usual, this includes the Indie Arena Booth, which has tons of demos to try out (there were 180 in 2020, you can find a selection from 2021 here). The Indie Area: Home of Indies by Factory-C will also be there again.
At the moment it is not yet clear which titles and developer studios will be there, with a few exceptions that have already been announced in the press release:
“The ‘North American Pavilion’, the Romanian Game Developers Association (RDGA), GameUp! Rheinland-Pfalz and the indie publisher Hooded Horse Inc will definitely be there.”

What about corona regulations, compulsory masks, etc.?
3G at gamescom: That can still change, but gamescom 2022 is currently focusing on that so-called “CH3CK” system. You must either be vaccinated, recovered or tested and be able to prove this with a digital Covid certificate (EU-DCC standard) in order to gain access. Tickets are only available digitally and you obviously also need a trade fair app. There you can also connect and display your Covid certificates directly.
Mouth and nose protection only voluntarily: Until recently stood in the FAQs from Messe Köln nor that “at least one piece of medical mouth and nose protection” must be worn on the entire site. In the meantime, however, this has been changed and now there is only the recommendation to voluntarily wear a medical mouth and nose protector. Which we would also strongly recommend to you if you go to gamescom.
