Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Repel Blue Shell – These 3.5 ways will help

The blue tank is one of the most feared items in Mario Kart 8.

The blue tank is one of the most feared items in Mario Kart 8.

In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe there are a whole range of items that you can use to turn the tides of racing in your favor and spit in the soup of other drivers. These include banana peels, green shells or piranha plants. An item that is as powerful as it is feared is the blue tank, which has a devastating effect.

What is the blue tank doing? Once shot down, the tank makes its way flying to the driver who is in first place. It then circles overhead once more before crashing down onto the track, releasing a powerful detonation that can also kill other riders.

In particular, all those who have often had to swallow a blue shell while lying in first place find the item annoying and have probably asked themselves the question: Can I repel a blue tank?

The answer to the above question is simple: That’s fine! However, it should also be sent in advance that a bit of luck is always required to take the wind out of the sails of the destructive item. There are still three – and a half more – possibilities or have proven themselves in the past one or the other time.

Possibility 1: The super horn

Probably the easiest way to avoid a blue tank is to have the super horn ready as an item, because that destroys the tank with a burst of energy. The horn is in the normal item rotation and I can also get it for the leading driver. To use the horn, simply wait for the tank to hover over your head and then press the item button.

Option 2: Buu-Huu

There is a second item that makes you invulnerable to the blue tank – and other item effects as well. The Buu-Huu spirit, which you can also get from the item boxes, makes you invisible and also fends off a blue tank attack in this state. The problem: Those who drive at the front of the field have a significantly lower chance of getting the item.

Possibility 3: Don’t drive away from the front!

This may sound very simple, but in our experience it has proven to be effective several times in the past. Since the blue tank always chooses the leader as its target, it can make sense not to take pole position directly at the beginning and in the middle of a race, but to wait a little behind and then take the lead towards the end of the race. It has even worked for a leader to slow down as an approaching tank hits the stunned driver, who overtakes him shortly thereafter.

Possibility 3.5: In addition, it is also possible, at least in theory, to escape the detonation of a blue tank with a timely deployed turbo mushroom. However, this requires extremely precise timing and is very difficult to carry out in practice, which is why it is only a “half” possibility for us.

There is no panacea

So there are definitely ways to fend off the blue tank. However, there isn’t one that works always and in every situation, because in order to be able to use the items mentioned above, for example, you have to get them first, of course.

So there is no panacea against blue tanks, which in a game like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, in which chance plays an important role, probably shouldn’t exist – after all, you wouldn’t be able to think so wonderfully about the blue tank otherwise to annoy.
