Respec in Elden Ring: reskilling and reassigning attributes – Here’s how

There are so many playstyles in Elden Ring – and you have the opportunity to test different builds in one playthrough.

Have you completely lost your skills in Elden Ring and want to completely rebuild your build? Or do you just want to reassign your attributes to try out a different fighting style or use it against a nasty boss? No problem: it works. However, you have to defeat a certain boss and use consumable items.

When and where is the respec possible?

It’s all about this: Bad news for anyone wanting to respec for Rennala: she’s the boss you need to defeat first in order to redistribute your attributes.

Rennala is the Chair of the Academy of Raya Lucaria in Liurnia and you can easily challenge them as the second big boss after Godrick. If you win, you will receive, among other things, the Great Rune of the Unborn, the effect of which reads as follows:

Here you can reskill: Unlike other defeated bosses, Rennala doesn’t simply disappear. After you win, she’ll be in the boss room, the Big Library in the Academy and you can talk to her to choose the “Rebirth” option (the “Customization” option allows you to change your name and appearance).

For every rebirth you need one larval tear. This is a key item that can be found in various locations in the game world or dropped by enemies. Here are some examples of locations relatively early in the game:

• Limgrave: On a cliff east of Grace South side of Lake Agheel are a few nobles. One of them will drop a larva tear. But beware: It is a big bear in disguise. As soon as you attack him, he assumes his true dangerous form.
• Liurnia: In the cemetery of village of the Albinaurics you can simply collect the larva tears.
• Liurnia: Between the Shrimp Cooker Hut and the rose church there is a pavilion. To the west you will find one of the giant lobsters (not to be confused with the lobsters right by the pavilion). Again, you have to be careful: This becomes the Transplanted Scion instead of dying. He drops the larva tear when he dies. So be prepared for a tough fight.
