2022 has the next MMORPG on its conscience - In November Forsaken World dies

Forsaken World is an MMORPG developed by Perfect World. They are known for games like World of Jade Dynasty and the MMORPGs Perfect World and Perfect World 2. Forsaken World has been playable in the west since 2012 and even got a version on Steam and for mobile devices. But this year the servers will be shut down.

What was that MMORPG? Forsaken World is very reminiscent of WoW in terms of structure and interface. You create a character from different peoples and classes and immerse yourself in a colorful game world. The usual content awaits you there:

  • You do quests and defeat monsters.
  • You can customize your character with different talents.
  • Fighting takes place in third person and with a tab targeting system.
  • There is a crafting system.
  • Dungeons play an important role in the endgame and can be entered via a dungeon finder.
  • PvP is in arenas, but once you hit level 30, it’s also in the open world. Here the game actually offers a small innovation: whenever you get hit in PvP, you lose soul orbs. You have to pick them up afterwards in order not to lose strength. You can also collect orbs from enemies to get a boost.

However, the game failed to build a large community in the West. The fact that there were simply better alternatives around the release of Forsaken World with Rift, SWTOR and Guild Wars 2 was an obstacle to this. In addition, the shop was monetized much more aggressively, for example with XP boosters and potions for real money.

What happened now? At the end of April, Gearbox Publishing (formerly Perfect World Entertainment) announced the shutdown of the servers. Forsaken Worlds will be retired on November 30, 2022. Anyone who has invested money in the game since March 1st will get it back in the form of Arc Credits, which can also be spent in Neverwinter, Star Trek Online or Perfect World.

The video by German YouTuber Spieletrend from 2017 gives an insight into the game:

Forsaken Worlds tried its hand as a mobile MMORPG back in 2015

How have the last few years gone for the MMORPG? The game received little attention from the start. It was also released promptly for the Steam platform.

A dedicated mobile version of the game was then developed in 2015: Forsaken World: Gods and Demons. However, it relied entirely on auto-play, so you didn’t have to actively play to make progress.

Then in 2017, Perfect World removed many of their games from Steam to provide better support. Among them was Forsaken World. A little later, however, the mobile version of Gods and Demons was released, but it received 61% negative reviews on Steam.

In recent years, the original Forsaken World has primarily received updates in the shop and there have been rotations at events. The last major update we found was from 2016.

Is Forsaken World the only MMORPG to die in 2022? no At the beginning of the year, the games Eternal Magic and Kritika: Reboot, as well as the Steam MMORPG Element Quest, were hit. The mobile MMORPG Warhammer Odyssey has also been shut down after suffering hacker attacks for weeks.

Another shutdown was also announced for 2022, which has affected many players much more than those previously mentioned. Because in June, Gameforge will shut down the action MMORPG TERA forever.

You can find out more about this in this post:

TERA is considered one of the best action MMORPGs – but in 2 months it will close forever
